False Doctrine

False Doctrine

1 Timothy 4:1 “some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons”

May the Grace of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, be with you now and forever.

The subject of this column, False Doctrine, is not new, nor is it one that Christians necessarily want to spend much time on. Especially those who are ‘Christian’ in name only, those who fill the stadiums of the mega-churches. Who call themselves ‘Seekers’ and yet seek after only those who fill their itching ears with soothsaying.

Selling the gospel of the prosperity of the world found in material gain is anti-Christ. Speaking in tongues that are not spoken language is the language of satan. Healing without anointing, prayer and laying on of hands of the congregation is disease to the soul and condemnation of the body to illness. Prophesying without declaring the Lordship of Jesus Christ and those prophecies not coming true 100% of the time is to speak the vain imaginings of a spiritually bereft mind.

1. Dual Covenant
(Jewish Covenant Theology, One Law Theology, Messianic Judaism)

Jewish Covenant Theology is the idea that Jews, as observers of the Old Testament Law, are exempt from Salvation by Christ, that they are already partakers of the gift of eternal life. This is not only diametrically opposed to everything the Bible teaches but is also a very dangerous idea that has and will result in the loss of many souls.

The following verses are enough to prove that this is in error:  John3:16 ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whoever (not just Gentiles) believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’
Romans 6:23 ‘The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.’
Acts 4:12 ‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men (not just Gentiles) whereby we must be saved.’

Acts 15:7  And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
8  And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
9  And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10  Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11  But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

One Law Theology is an offshoot of the New Evangelical Movement. This misguided nonsense, this lie, holds that the Old Testament Law must be observed wholly by both Jews and Gentiles alike, in order to be Redeemed.

One of the fundamental underpinings of Judaism is rejection of Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah. Rejecting Jesus is an automatic one-way ticket to hell and no one is exempt from this. Therefore, unless a person who is practicing the Jewish faith renounces it and accepts Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and ceases to place his faith in the ceremonial Law, Law of Moses, there is no Salvation.

The spectre of anti-semitism is raised whenever anyone attempts to question this dogma, effectively shutting down any meaningful dialogue and examination of the errors of these teachings. This is unfair in the extreme mainly because Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi and if our Saviour came from the line of the Hebrew King David, how can it be antisemitic to question those who are twisting His words?

The Gospel of the New Testament was the bridge first to Jews, then Gentiles, between the gulf of the Ceremonial Law and death. Following the Ceremonial Law does not make one righteous. Jesus was the fulfillment of and the end to the Ceremonial Law. He signified the end of the old Covenant and the embodiment of the new. Following the Lamb of God and His Commandments is the ONLY way to Salvation. For everyone. EVERYONE.

2. Ecumenism

Let’s start off with what The Bible has to say about ecumenism:

2 Corinthians 6:14, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

The definition of ecumenism is the simple statement that there are many paths to heaven and all Christians should band together and find the common ground in other religions. That catholics are Christians and therefore Protestants and catholics should be partnered. That Mohammedans worship God but call him allah and they are spiritual brothers. That Buddhists are defined by love and peace and therefore are the same as Christians, et cetera. What a slippery slope to damnation this is! The simple truth of the matter can be found in three verses from The Holy Bible:

John3:16 ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’

Romans 6:23 ‘The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.’

Acts 4:12 ‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’

The bottom line is that any faith that denies these three truths is apostate and anti-Christ and should be left alone. To take up the Cross is to differentiate oneself from the world and to invite persecution. If the world is against me because my faith condemns them to damnation for their unbelief, then how am I fulfilling my oblifations as a Christian by embracing their beliefs and not dilligently working toward their understanding of the truth, that the only path to Salvation is the Cross? There are not enough works that will save a soul from hell, lest any man boast; there are no amount of incarnations that will enable a man to ‘get it right’; that allah is the moon god worshipped by a simple and backward desert clan that used his image as a totem for to convert at the point of a sword entire nations of people?

The goal of the adversary is to coalesce the belief systems of the world into one universal, ecumenical, religion. The easiest way to do this is to create division in the Body of Christ and sow doubt in the mind of man to the point where it seems logical that if we all come together as one, the problems of the world can be solved, and if not, the source of our problems would be the racalcitrant Christian and his inabillity to ‘go along with the program.’ Surely the persecution of tribulation will be centered on this point and there are many Christians who will compromise their stand in the interests of ‘going along to get along.’

Any man of faith who professes an ecumenical outlook can be safely labeled as heretical and anti-Christ and should be ignored. Any faith movement that is centered upon this satanic dogma is anathema to the truth and should be avoided.

If we simply look to the Scriptures, our final authority, for the answers, we will be pleasantly surprised by how simple it really is. It is the world which complicates and sells compromise as the path to peace. I would gladly take a lifetime of trial and tribulation on this earth, as long as I have the reward of my Father in Heaven to look forward to for eternity.

The premier figure in the ecumenical movement today is that apostate, that heretic and satanic imp, ‘pope’ Benedict the XVI, who said “Whoever seeks peace and the good of the community with a pure conscience, and keeps alive the desire for the transcendent, will be saved even if he lacks biblical faith.” (pope Benedict XVI’s general audience, Nov. 30, 2005.)

Another champion of ecumenism, the harridan and torture-monger known as “mother” Teresa is quoted as saying: “If in coming face to face with God we accept Him in our lives, then we are converting. We become a better Hindu, a better Muslim, a better Catholic, a better whatever we are. … What God is in your mind you must accept” (from Mother Teresa: Her People and Her Work, by Desmond Doig, p. 156).

Then is there no need of the Cross? For the Resurrection? For profession of faith in the only Begotten of the Father? If so, then the entire Bible is to be ignored and the 6,000 year history of the Work of the Creator God is null and void. If you believe that, then good luck to you. I myself choose to believe that it is only through faith in Jesus and the proclamation of the Cross that I can be saved and that Salvation is not to be found in any other belief, man, or figure in history.

Again, in John 3:3, Jesus said “…Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Galatians 3:26 “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

Not by faith in Buddha, or Krishna, or L. Ron Hubbard, or Mary, or the Pope, or anyone else but Jesus. There is no ecumenism in the Plan of The Creator.

3. The Emergent Church

A branch of the New Evangelical Movement, the Emerging Church is perhaps one of the most counterintuitively named of them all.

Basically a rehash of Gnosticism with Eastern Mysticism thrown in the mix, this is a dangerous hybrid in that it portrays Jesus and the Apostles as propogating a version of Christianity that is centered on the self as welll as reinventing the traditional New Testament Canon in the image of a New Age philosophy.

Their keywords of ‘mystery’ and ‘tolerance’ are two ingredients in a postmodern poison which includes such thinly veiled satanic beliefs as ‘Christian Yoga’ and ‘Meditation’, practices intended to center the spiritual on the carnal and the focus not on God but on self.

Although ostensibly believing in the concept of sin, they steer clear away from any discussion of it and focus on ‘good news’ and ‘grace’, defining salvation as that given by grace alone and not dependent upon the neccessity for repentance or changing one’s self to better reflect the personality of Christ.

The blatant confusion propogated by the ‘Emergent Church’ is fueling a wave of apostasy that is successfully widening the gulf between true believers and those who claim to be. Calling yourself a ‘Christian’ does not make it so.

By ‘changing to keep up with the times’, this movement is directly anathema to the reality that neither God nor His Word change. They are constant from beginning to end. Any movement that seeks to change God’s Word is flirting with spiritual death and is in direct contravention to the Word of the Almighty Himself;

Galatians 1:6-9,

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

4. Faith Healing

Once the carnival sideshow of offbeat Christianity, faith healing has become mainstream.

Based on erroneous interpretation of scriptures such as James 5:13: ‘Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick…’

Faith Healing is an integral part of the New-Evangelical movement and is closely related to the Word-Faith and Prosperity Gospel heresies discussed below.

Using Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), techniques of hypnosis and stage management, faith healers are experts in creating a mood and controlling a crowd. The right lighting, repetitive music and nonsensical verbiage reinforces faith in the unseen, and faith healers manipulate highly suggestive people (who are already there expecting a miracle) and use preconceived expectations to convince them that they or others are being healed.

Healings reported by such harlots of satan’s empire as Todd Bentley, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, etc., are almost always restricted to back pain, migraines, bone pain or other dis-eases not visible to the naked eye. When cripples walk, they are almost always exposed as plants, or they fall down after attempting to emerge from their wheelchairs or after throwing their walkers away. When Jesus healed, the blind saw, the crippled walked (or even danced), and the dead lived. These healings were instantaneous and observable to everyone within ear and eye shot. These healings lasted for the life of the healed. Modern day faith healers have not been able to make the blind see again, the mute speak or the deaf hear. Claims of healings such as these almost invariably come from remote parts of the world and are not accompanied by any proveable evidence or testimony.

Peter Popoff is one of the more egregious of these outright frauds. In 1986, investigator James Randi exposed Popoff and his methods, which led to Popoff’s bankruptcy in 1987 and subsequent exile from the Christian community. Popoff wore an earpiece through which his wife fed him details on various members of the audience. Using this information, Popoff would appear to have ‘Holy’ understanding about their illnesses and was able to convince people that he could heal them. These transmissions were intercepted by Randi and exposed Popoff to the world for the fraud he was. Steve Martin’s 1992 movie ‘Leap of Faith’ is a great study in the behind-the-scenes machinations of the modern faith healer and exposes Popoff’s methodology. The unrepentant faker Popoff is at it again with a television program in which he currently offers ‘Miracle Spring Water’ and ‘Miracle Manna’ for free to build his mailing list of potential donors.

The gifts of the spirit, such as healing, were for a specific people (the Apostles), a specific time (during and immediately after Christ’s ministry), and a specific purpose (to grow the Body of Christ and establish the first churches). Though healing does occur, it is by and through the Will of God, not to enrich the fakers and fraudsters who would prey on the desperate and spiritually vulnerable.

5. Hebrew Roots Movement

Colossians 2:16  ’Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.’

Romans 14:5  ’One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6  He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7  For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8  For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.’

Romans 7:6  ’But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.’

So, if we take the Word of God as our instruction manual on how to live, we must accept that there is no exhortation to the gentile to live under Levitical Law, as a matter of fact, we are specifically called NOT to follow these laws. The Law of God, the Moral Law (as opposed to the Ceremonial Law and the Levitical Law) is what He wrote upon our hearts. That excepting the morally degenerate and irretrievably maladjusted, or for that matter those who have no capacity for self-control, we all know that idols are not real, that theft is wrong and murder is a sin. But just as the Hebrew word ‘ratsach’ was defined as the Greek ‘phoneuo’, both have murder as their primary meaning. It was the catholics that conspired to restrain all and sundry from defense of the helpless when they rendered the same as ‘kill’, thus eliminating the option of differentiating between committing murder and killing. The one an act without conscience or reason and the other with the potential for careful consideration and definite purpose to the greater good.

So also the Messianic would twist the scriptures and reinterpret those words he finds inconvenient to the confining nature of his belief system.

Let us understand that the Lord our God is in no way beholden to anyone. He is the Supreme Being, and if he had wanted us to continue under the Levitical Laws as the only path to Salvation, He would have avoided sending Himself in the guise of his Son to be sacrificed, murdered, for our sakes.

6. Judeo-Christian Doctrine

A branch of the Ecumenism, the concept of Judeo-Christian doctrine seeks to homogenize these two ideals. However, the only similarity between these is God, Jesus and the Old Testament. The doctrines of Judaism seek to imprison Jews in the morass of laws to be followed in order to be reconciled with God. The only laws to follow now are the Ten Commandments. The only reconciliation between man and God is found in faith in Christ. There is no other way. Until the Jewish faith embraces this truth, Romans 11:11I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.’, there is no marriage of the two doctrines.

As stated above, rejection of Jesus as the Messiah is basic to Judaism. Either Judaism is right, or Christianity is. Since Jesus Christ fulfilled every single prophecy concerning the Messiah and His identity, and based on eyewitness testimony provided in the New Testament and historical records independent of the authors of the Scriptures, the reasonable conclusion is that Christianity is the correct view and though Judaism had a very important place in the genesis of salvation, Jews are in no better a position than any other unrepentant group and their only hope is faith in Jesus, the same as it is for all of us.

Everyone born since the Resurrection is on the same playing field. King David and Moses, Abraham and Joseph may enjoy salvation by their faith in and obedience to God attributed to them as righteousness, but the same cannot be said of Golda Meier or Anne Frank, Rabbi Akiva Goldsman or Dr. Laura Schlesinger. Only God knows their hearts, but by their fruits shall they be known, and without faith in Christ there is no Salvation, period.

7. Lordship Salvation / Works Salvation

The most common heresy is that of selling the Lordship Salvation as the way to the Promise of eternity with The Lord.

Lordship Salvation is the heresy that a lost sinner MUST stop living in sin PRIOR to being saved, that one must provide some righteousness of their own as a prerequisite to Salvation. There is none righteous, no, not one and the Sacrifice of our Lord and Savior takes the place of the righteous sacrifice that we cannot give. We are not now and will not be until transfiguration in a position to offer our God a spotless character which to save. If we were ever in a position to completely turn from sin and become perfected by our own efforts without first being Saved and asking for forgiveness, we would not need Salvation, the Second Coming, or Christ at all.

That is not to say that once Saved we don’t repent of our sin and ask for strength to turn from it, of course not. Rather, it is by Salvation that we are given the strength to turn from sin and when we find ourselves back in temptation or backsliding that we have the right to ask God for the strength and guidance to turn from it. That is Grace, He gives us that Grace through the shed Blood of His Son and our dependence upon It is our offering to Him.

Lordship Salvation is a straight path to Salvation by Works. Taught by the catholic Church as the way to Redemption, that by Works you are Saved and NOT by Faith and the Grace of God. That self-righteousness by not sinning and/or by good works is the causative factor in Redemption, PRIOR to Salvation.

The heresy of that den of vipers, the catholic Church, and sold as Salvation by Works is responsible for God alone knows how many lost souls just as the untold numbers lost to the teachings of the likes of Ray Comfort and his acolyte, Kirk Cameron.

Salvation is simple, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”Matthew 7:21; “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:40.

Romans 10:3-4, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”

“When anyone comes promising salvation to those ‘who make full surrender’ of all that they have to God, and who ‘pay the price of full salvation’, he is preaching another gospel, for the price was paid on Calvary’s cross and the work that saves is finished. It was Christ Jesus who made the full surrender when He yielded His life on Calvary that saves us, not our surrender in any way to Him.” Harry A. Ironside, ‘Another Gospel?’

The following is quoted directly from http://roboam.com/repentance/wilkin-06.htm

‘Jesus did not tell Nicodemus that he had to turn from his sins in order to be born again (John 3). Nor did He tell the woman at the well that she had to turn from her sins to obtain eternal life (John 4). The same is true with the man born blind (John 9), and Martha (John 11). And, tellingly, the book’s statement of purpose (John 20:31) does not mention turning from sins as a condition for eternal life.‘

Remember, the Holy Bible is The Final Authority.

8. Motivational Speaking / Self-Help / Self-Forgiveness

Motivational speaking is centered on the concept of ‘self-help’, that only by feeling good about ourselves can we become better people and ensure material and spiritual success. That by ‘naming it and claiming it’ we can unlock our profit-potential in the Lord and become wealthy with material gain. That the only true happiness is found in being young, rich and healthy. This of course leaves out the Biblical requirement of Salvation in Christ as a prerequisite for spiritual growth and puts the emphasis on wealth and material gain, a concept which is held in contempt by our Saviour and those to whom he entrusted His Ministry (the Apostles).

The order to earnestly seek to follow in His footsteps, taking the examples given by Him and the Apostles on how to approach life and our relationships is not mentioned whatsoever and neither is the expectation of deliverance from this world system by our Saviour. In the world of motivational speaking, we save ourselves from ourselves.

If ‘self-help’ were possible in any lasting sense, why would we need to look outside of ourselves in the first place?

Alonmg with this heresy is the self-deferating concept of ‘self-forgiveness’. The idea being that only through foirgiving ourselves can we truly ‘let go’ of the ties that bind us from spiritual growth. See the new-agery yet? This concept of motivational speaking is rife with new age concepts and as such should be avoided at all costs.

1 Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”

Just as I thought, Jesus Saves, and by that through forgiveness. I do not nor cannot.

9. Prosperity Gospel, Seed-Faith, Word-Faith, Purpose-Driven Movement

The Prosperity Gospel, similar to the doctrine of Seed-Faith, the Word-Faith Doctrine, and the Purpose Driven Movement, is a mishmash of such damnable heresies that it’s futility should be self-evident. The fact that it is the fastest growing movement within mainstream Christianity shows you how depserately worldy Christians have become.

The idea stems from the (il)logical argument that:
1. God spoke the universe and everything it into creation;
2. God created man in His image;
3. Man can speak things into existence.

Unfortunately, that argument falls flat on its face and the simple reason lies in the second part, namely ‘in His image’, His ‘likeness’. Not in His absolute creative power and certainly not in His eternal wisdom.

The magical imagery associated with the ‘think it and create it’ myth is that if we are ill, we are to blame for ‘thinking’ ourselves sick. If we are poor we are to blame for not imaging riches but instead ‘affirming’ a ‘poverty mentality’. The onus of responsibility for everything in our lives lies upon us and NOT on the One at Whose feet we are instructed to lay our trust.

The ultimate purpose of life is NOT happiness, it is knowledge of God. Our joy in this world lies in expectation of deliverance from it, not a more comfotable existence within it. Those who would propound this satanic creed are on a straight shot to hell and taking their adherents with them on greased skids.

This doctrine of devils known as Word-Faith and Purpose-Driven or Possibility Thinking, that by speaking a verse of the Bible you get the promise of it delivered to you, is foolish heresy. One can no more receive God’s Blessings merely by repetition of verses than can a parrot understand the concept of love by repeating the word “love”. One who is Saved and studies the Bible, quotes from It in prayer and in witnessing, grows in his knowledge and understanding of God, but the true Blessings of our Father God come from Him at His pleasure. All is according to His Glory and His Will, regardless of whether His Will being made manifest in our lives brings us what we THINK we should be blessed with or not.

The Prosperity Gospel and Seed-Faith Doctrine are one and the same. The assumption is that God wants us to be rich and have our wants met here on earth, and that by demanding it of Him and/or by ‘sowing’ financial seeds, they will then germinate into untold riches for us.  Nonsense.

If we could speak anything into existence we would have no use for God, for Salvation, for doctors, bankers, a job, a haircut, nail clippers. Come on. But most important, we are not to seek to forgive ourselves. We are to understand that we need forgiveness and that can only come from the One Who is empowered to forgive. If I sin against you, you forgive me, then I ask God for forgiveness. The one is to maintain the purity of your soul and the other mine.

If the power of self-forgiveness was real, then by extension so would the power of the confessional be real. It is not. A frustrated celibate dressed in flowing robes and named ‘Father’ has no more power of real forgiveness than I can speak a stone of granite into a nugget of gold.

The universe and everything in it is subject to the Will of God, not the other way around. You can ‘name it and claim it’ from now until Kingdom come. Unless the Father is Heaven Wills it, it will not be so. Unless, of course, the ‘god’ you worship comes from that other place and you are practicing idolatry, in which case your reward is here on earth, and below it in the after-life.

10. Speaking in Tongues

A definitive mark of the Pentecostal, Charismatic New Evangelicalism, the practice of speaking in tongues is engaged in by many pentecostal denominations. Claiming a special ‘anointing’ of the Holy Spirit, a ‘Holy Spirit baptism’, the claim is centered on the events of Acts 2:4-11. However, the language spoke by the Apostles to the 5,000 assembled were earthly languages, human tongues, languages specific to the gathered masses so that they could hear, in their own mother tongue, the revelation of the Gospel of Salvation. The Apostles were speaking languages they could not understand, but that were understood clearly by those to whom they were speaking. The word ‘tongues’ is from the greek ‘glossa’ which has only one meaning and refers to specific, human, languages.

Of the three instances of tongues in the New Testament, never once were they unintelligible, the languages spoken were mentioned in a list:

Acts 2:8-11 ‘And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born; Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.’

The  main question is, if tongues were provided as a sign for unbelievers, why is this nonsense practiced only by believers in closed company? This was not self-edification, this was as a witness. 1 Corinthians 14:22  ’Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23  If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24  But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all.’

This is a far cry from the psychotic babbling that is engaged in by the likes of satanic apostates Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Robert Tilton and their ilk.

These utterances are nothing more than the insane babblings of a one possessed by demonic spirits, not in any way a ‘Holy Spirit’ sent from God.

The frenzied, trancelike babbling, screaming and shaking, jumping and tongue-flicking engaged in by many claiming this spurious baptism of the Holy Spirit are engaging in behavior never once mentioned anywhere in the Bible as being a symptom of Holy inspiration, rather it is very specifically mentioned in reference to unholy possession.

Engaging in this behavior is to ally yourself with the unfruitful works of darkness. If your church practices this insanity, flee and get home to your Bible and pray for cleansing.

11. Spiritism / Spiritualism

Ephesians 5:11  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

And just what does our Father in Heaven and His Son define as ‘the unfruitful works of darkness’? Let’s see:

1 Samuel 15:23  ‘For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.’

2 Chronicles 33:6  ‘And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Galatians 5:20  ‘Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

So astrology, spellcraft, witchcraft, palm reading, idolatry, scrying, seances, ouija, all New Age philosophy, earth (Gaia) worship, reincarnation, all of these and those activities deriving from and associated with them are considered the unfruitful works of darkness.

The bottom line is that unless one is severely mentally challenged and thus under grace, one knows whether one is engaging in these practices.

One major sign of the times is the obsession of catholics with palm reading and astrology, image worship and communicating with the dead. In this litany of sins, if the synagogue of satan (the catholic church) approves of it or by silent acceptance approves it not, it is definitely a sin.

Even people who consider themselves Christians regularly consult their daily horoscope; think they see the spirits of deceased loved ones and talk to them; watch psychics such as James van Praagh, John Edwards or Sylvia Brown.

This is a serious matter and if you are reading this, you are intelligent enough to know what the occult is. There is no point in arguing the fine points of palmistry versus astrology. It is all forbidden. The following are Bible sources to illustrate how God feels about it

It seems that lukewarm Christians like to split hairs between the Old and New Testaments, as though they are two separate books, when in reality the entirety of the Holy Bible is 66 books that are written as a whole. However, to drive the point home that these instructions from our Creator are meant for EVERYONE, the following are verses selected from the New testament.

Take heed and follow the Word of God, or face the consequences at the Great White Throne Judgement.

1 John 4:1  ’Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2  Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5  They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6  We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.’

1 Timothy 4:1  ’Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3  Forbidding to marry (Catholics), and commanding to abstain from meats (Catholics), which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4  For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5  For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.’

Acts 8:9  ’But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
10  To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
11  And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
12  But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13  Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.’

Acts 13:6  ’And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
7  Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
8  But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
9  Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
10  And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11  And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.’

Acts 16:16  ’And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17  The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18  And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.’

Matthew 24:24  ’For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.’

Revelation 9:21  ’Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.’

Revelation 21:8  ’But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.’

Revelation 22:15  ’For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.’

Some Final Thoughts

False doctrines such as these are dangerous on many levels. They not only delay a person’s spiritual growth, they lead the person down a dark road of apostasy that is very difficult to return from.

Remember, our souls are the targets in this spiritual war and the Adversary will create any avenue possible to keep mankind from Salvation. The seducing, soothing voices of  apostate preachers working to fill the pews of churches that practice false doctrines is such a tactic, and the spiritually weak are especially susceptible to this.

Pray always for discernment and clarity. Pray to our Creator God for fellowship with true members of the Body of Christ. Read your Bible and compare everything in the world with what the Bible teaches. For example, if your church practices faith healing or tongues, they are not Biblical. Speak to others members of the church about these Biblical truths, and having done so, leave that church.

Some verses from The Holy Bible that should be studied and prayed over by every Christian are:

Hebrews 12:6 ‘For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.’

James 1:26  ‘If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27  Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.’

James 4:4  ‘Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5  Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.’

Matthew 24:4 “See to it that no one misleads you.”

Ezekiel 22:26  ‘Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
27  Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.
28  And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.
29  The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.’

The 2016 Presidential Election

A sufficient amount of time has elapsed since the election of November 8 to allow us to look at the presidential election as it pertains to the status of Christians in the United States.

We must state at the outset that the Editors of Tarry Not Ministries made no recommendation as to whether Hillary Clinton would have been preferable to Donald Trump. However, in light of Biblical exhortations as to the qualities of Godly leadership, we can say that the Word of God is clear in the area of women leaders: they are NOT to hold authority over men. The women in positions of leadership in the Bible were disastrous, (Isaiah 3:12 “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”) and those who some point to as examples of leadership were NOT leaders in authority, they were business people (Lydia), prophets (Anna, Hulda, Deborah and Miriam), and helpmates to the Apostles (Priscilla, Junias, Phoebe).

Our national leadership is allowed their office through the Will of God but all leaders are to be prayed for. (1 Timothy 2:1-3, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be make for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.”; 1 Peter 2:13-17, “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake (ensure that the ordinance must not violate Scripture): Whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by Him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of them that do well. For this is the will of God, that with well-doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the King.”

So, looking at the foregoing, we can surmise the intent of God’s Will in the choosing of our leaders:

  • A nation will receive blessings that are relative to its acceptance of God and to its demonstrated spirituality;
  • All public servants are under the authority of God and the offices they hold are to be respected, however persons of ill repute are NOT to be considered for positions of leadership by the electorate;
  • Citizens are instructed by God to pray for public leaders, even those who are not born-again Christians.

Whether or not Donald Trump claims to be a Born-Again Christian, we must look to his actions, not his words. There are several areas in which his actions will demonstrate his faith, most importantly is will Trump work to protect Christians from persecution?

If the foregoing does not happen, then he will have failed the hopes of the millions of Christians who voted for him.

The world as we know it is changing and the time of the end is soon upon us. As the wheels of Tribulation begin to turn, there will be precious little that any national leader can do to stem the tide of Satan’s wrath and God’s judgement (Matthew 24:21-22 “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”). Christians WILL be persecuted, not just in the Middle East but worldwide. Nations WILL turn against each other and God, (Matthew 24:7 “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…”).

As Christians in the USA, we pray for deliverance but remember that God will not be mocked, nor will he be delayed in fulfillment of HIS prophecies, as told to us through his prophets and the very words of His Son.

May God have mercy on us and give us all time to repent.

THE PAPACY: Inception to Inquisitions End

THE PAPACY

Pope Leo IX (b. 1002, d. 1054) was an unscrupulous adventurer who spent his pontificate touring Europe with a quota of armed knights and left the world worse than he found it. The Church called him “Lapsi” (lapsed), coyly admitting that “he defected from the faith…he fell away by actually offering sacrifice to the false gods (t h u r i f i c a ti)…it is not known why he recanted his religion” Catholic Encyclopedia, Pecci ed., iii, p. 117.

BEGINNINGS

The Papacy as it exists today is a far different entity than that which emerged from the ashes of the crumbling Roman Empire.

After the establishment of the Church in Jerusalem on Pentecost, 30 AD, it existed as singular ‘ecclesias’, ‘churches’, located in various cities. These bodies were overseen by the Apostles Peter, Paul, Barnabas and Elders appointed by them.

On October 10, 366, Damasus was elected Bishop of Rome and began the drive to consolidate the disparate sects of Christendom into a cohesive, universal whole.

In December 384, Damasus died and Siricius was appointed to the Pontificate. Until his death in November 399, Siricius strove to complete the work begun by Damasus, being the first to claim the apostolic succession direct from Peter.

In the following years, the work of the various popes succeeded in consolidating power to Rome. With the enthronement of Constantine as the Emperor, followed by his vision of the cross and the words ‘in hoc signe vinces’ (‘with this sign conquer’), Constantine drove the final stake into the heart of ecclesiastical independence and, with the Council of Nicea, established the Catholic Church.

Miltiades was the first pope following the end of Christian persecution (the persecution ended with the Edict of Milan issued by Constantine in 313, which legalized Christianity). Also in 313, Miltiades oversaw the Lateran council.

Reigning for only 2 years and 192 days, from July 2, 311 until January 10, 314, Miltiades was succeeded by Sylvester I.

Sylvester was appointed by Constantine on January 31, 314 and in 325 ruled over the First Council of Nicea. Sylvester ruled the Holy See as a Constantine puppet, consolidating power over Christendom until December 31, 335. Sylvester wore the Crown of Bishop for an astounding 21 years and 334 days.

PETRINE THEORY

The alleged authority of the establishment of the papacy as the supreme authority over the Church of Christ, known as the ‘Petrine Theory’, comes from Matthew 16:18 ‘And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ 19 ‘And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.’

However, this reading of two verses is quite out of context. The entire contextual reading would of necessity include:

Matthew 16:13 ‘Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He began asking His disciples, saying, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is”?’ 14 ‘And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets”.’ 15 ‘He said to them, “But who do you say that I am”?’ 16 ‘And Simon Peter answered and said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”.’ 17 ‘And Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.’ 18 ‘And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it”.’ 19 ‘”I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”‘ 20 ‘Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.’

As you see, there is quite a bit more to the conversation Jesus had with His disciples than the simple reading claimed by Catholicism as the imprimatur of authority for their establishment of the church universal.

The New Testament was originally written in Greek and the translators had difficulty with the exposition of masculine and feminine pronouns in their reading of the text.

Matthew 16:17-20. Peters words brought a word of commendation from the Lord. Peter was blessed because he had come to a correct conclusion about the person of Christ and because great blessing would be brought into his life. The Lord added, however, this was not a conclusion Peter had determined by his own or others ability.

God, the Father in heaven, had revealed it to him. Peter was living up to his name (it means rock for he was demonstrating himself to be a rock. When the Lord and Peter first met, Jesus had said Simon would be named Cephas (Aramaic for rock) or Peter, Greek for rock; John 1:41-42. ”…his declaration about Messiahs person led to a declaration of Messiahs program. Peter (Petros, masculine) was strong like a rock, but Jesus added that on this rock (petra, feminine) He would build His church. Because of this change in Greek words, many conservative scholars believe that Jesus is now building His church on Himself. (…) It seems best to understand that Jesus was praising Peter for his accurate statement about Him, and was introducing His work of building the church on Himself (1 Corinthians 3:11). The Bible Knowledge Commentary

APOSTOLIC AUTHORITY

Now, as for the assumption of apostolic authority usurping God’s, the church uses another loose translation, this time of Matthew 16.19 whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven.

Not so fast. The Greek properly translated comes out to whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven. So we see that the intention of our Lord was to iterate a statement previously made by the Father in Isaiah 46:8 ‘Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure’.

Therefore, the proper understanding of the context of Matthew 16:19 is that our Father (read: God) has stated at least twice in scripture that no matter what happens here on Earth, all things have been foreseen by Him and, in the case of the Apostles, their understanding of scripture and the Gospel is sufficient to know the Will of God as revealed by the Holy Spirit and to give voice to it in their evangelistic efforts. Such things will come to pass as they have already been decided by our Father.

The title ‘Vicarius en Filii’, or ‘Vicar of Christ’ comes from this usurpation of authority and intentional misrepresentation of scripture, and was first used by Pope Gelasius I (492496).

The First Epistle of Clement is widely acknowledged as the basis for the authoritative primacy of the Holy See (the office of Pope located in the Vatican).

Furthermore, Clement is given direct lineage from Peter by Irenaeus, who wrote: ‘The blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, having founded and established the Church of Rome, handed over the office of bishop to Linus – of whom Paul makes mention in his second letter to Timothy” (2 Timothy 4:21). And Eusebius, in his ‘History of the Church’ confirms this: ‘Linus (67-76 A.D.) was succeeded by Anacletus (76-88 A.D.), then by Clement (88- 97 A.D.), a disciple of Peter’.

PAGAN INFLUENCE

Constantine was a priest of the cult of Sol Invictus, the sun cult, and maintained his position until the time of his death, where upon his deathbed he accepted baptism as a catholic, subsequently dying a fallen soul, not believing in or proclaiming the sufficiency of Salvation through Christ.

During his efforts to rein in the nascent church, Constantine merged several pagan cults with his new version of Christianity. The syncretization of Mithraism, the cult of Sol Invictus, Greek, Egyptian and Roman paganism would succeed in bringing into the coffers of Rome the tithes of hundreds of thousands of new Christians. These people would have been very comfortable in this new religious environment, as they would hardly feel out of place. The re-establishment of the offices and rituals of the Collegium Pontificum (today known as the College of Cardinals); the assumption of the title of the Roman Emperors by the pope, Pontifex Maximus; the office of Nun, or Bride of Christ, formerly known as temple prostitutes and sorceresses in the Temple of Jupiter, the Vestal Virgins; the wearing by priests of vestments modeled on the garb of the priests of the cult of Dagon, the fish god. Even going to far as to wear the mitre, or fish head.

The popes have always considered themselves to be Christ incarnate and even the Deity Himself, hence their insistence upon being called Holy Father, to differentiate themselves from the lowly ‘father’ used to entitle all other priests.

The title Pope means ‘papa’ in Italian, from the Greek for Father, ‘pappas’. The earliest known use of the title ‘Pope’ was to the deceased Heraclas of Alexandria (232248).

As to the use of the title ‘Father’, I believe Jesus Christ should have the final Word, perhaps speaking in anticipation of this very heresy: Matthew 23:9 ‘And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven’.

CONFESSION

As for the use of confession and the remission of sins by priests, this is a practice of sheer paganism that dates back to the dynastic Egyptians and to the Sumerians before them.

We see that the Word of God tells us in no uncertain terms that we are to confess our faults to each other, James 5:16 ‘Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.’

However, we are to confess our sins to God, who forgives us. 1 John 1:9 ‘If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’ And David iterated this in Psalm 32:5 ‘I acknowledged my sin unto thee (God), and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and Thou (God) forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.’

Mark 2:7 ‘…who can forgive sins but God only?’ Jesus tells us how to pray using the Lord’s Prayer. In this prayer He is clear: Luke 11:4 ‘And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.’

1 Timothy 2:5 ‘For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.’

However, Catholics will use the following verse, out of context, to justify their assumption of this divine responsibility: 2 Corinthians 2:10 ‘To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ.’

The foregoing verse is Paul talking to the Corinthian church, telling them that as his proxy, if they deem it efficacious to forgive the trespass of a brother, then he (Paul) would accede to their decision and render forgiveness also. This is not a forgiveness of sin but a pardon for wrongdoing. Nowhere in the New Testament scripture does the power to forgive unto Salvation rest with anyone but God the Father, and Jesus, such power given to Him by God the Father, to Whom we pray in Jesus Name.

Jesus also did not anywhere indicate that there was to be any kind of ‘Apostolic succession’ of powers, indeed all evidence is to the contrary.

As for Salvation, the scriptures keep it simple: the warden of the prison where Paul and Silas were incarcerated asked what he must do to be saved and the answer was plain, Acts 16:30 ‘…Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,…’

Unfortunately, the (proclaimed by man) ‘Vicar of Christ’, in the person of Benedict XVI stated: “Whoever seeks peace and the good of the community with a pure conscience, and keeps alive the desire for the transcendent, will be saved even if he lacks biblical faith.” Pope Benedict XVI’s general audience, Nov. 30, 2005.

Jesus said something else entirely: 1 John 2:1 ‘My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.’

According to the Pope, for non-Catholics, there is no need for Salvation by faith in Christ.

However, the Catholic Church lists at least 23 things necessary for a Catholic to endure in order to ensure salvation. I list a select few below, followed by specific scriptures that refute these pagan practices:

WORSHIP (VENERATION) of GRAVEN IMAGES

The Bible is replete with admonitions against the use of graven images, statues, et cetera in the worship of God. God and He alone is to be venerated and that using no image or statue, but only with the heart and mind and soul.

Especially not praying to the disembodied spirits of the departed, dear or not. The Second Commandment, Exodus 20:4 ‘Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth’, is quite clear that statues and pictures are not to be worshiped or venerated.

However, the Catholic version of the Holy Scriptures, a 1609 translation of the Old Testament from Genesis through Job were incorporated into the previously published works of the New Testament collectively known as the Douay-Rheims Bible, leaves out the Second Commandment and splits the 10th into two parts. The original wording of the 9th Commandment is as follows:

Exodus 20:17 ‘Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s’. The Catholic version splits this into the Ninth and Tenth Commandment as shown: 9th ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife’, and 10th ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house’; thus ending up with Ten Commandments and conveniently leaving the door open for the veneration of statues, coins, pictures, relics, and other ‘images’, thus flooding the church coffers with ‘offerings’.

There are many additional admonitions against this practice to be found: Leviticus 26:1 ‘Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God’.

Deuteronomy 4:16 ‘Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,’

Deuteronomy 4:23 ‘Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee’.

Romans 1:23 ‘And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things’.

SALVATION BY WORKS / FOLLOWING CHURCH LAW

There is none that can work hard enough to gain Salvation. There was only one, Jesus Christ, Who perfectly and without error followed both the Law of Man and the Law of God, to show he was worthy, as a man, for salvation by works. Therefore, being fallen man, the only path to Salvation lies in faith in the Risen Christ and the cleansing power of His blood to wash away sins. Good works are a result of Salvation, not a cause of it.

Acts 16:30 ‘…Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,…’

Ephesians 2:8 ‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.’

Matthew 7:22 ‘Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity’.

There is no salvation in following Church Canon, or Law: Galatians 2:16 ‘Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified’.

THE ‘ROSARY’

‘The most holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or, above all, spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families, of the families of the world, or of the religious communities, or even of the life of peoples and nations, that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the holy Rosary. With the holy Rosary, we will save ourselves; we will sanctify ourselves; we will console our Lord, and obtain the salvation of many souls.’ Conversation between Sr. Lucy of Fatima and Fr. Fuentes, Dec. 26, 1957.

In 1569, Pope Pius V issued a papal bull known as Consueverunt Romani Pontifices, in which Pius, a Dominican, mandated that devotion of Mary using the rosary was to be an official rite of the Catholic Church. Use of the rosary is necessary to keep count of the many repetitions of the Ave Maria and the Lord’s Prayer that Catholics undertake in daily worship as well as completion of penance, the Rosary as a way of praying oneself into forgiveness for assorted sins.

The use of prayer beads, however, is not isolated to Catholicism. Prayer beads have been used for thousands of years and are still in use today by Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, the Baha’i and others. The earliest use of prayer beads in Christianity dates to the third century. The Desert Fathers used pebbles drawn from a bag to count prayers and then made use of a knotted rope, still utilized by the Eastern Orthodox.

It must be said that there is absolutely no Biblical frame of reference endorsing the use of prayer beads.

As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ Himself commanded His Apostles NOT to pray in a repetitious manner:

Matthew 6:7 ‘But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.’

Prayer beads, or prayer rosaries, are really another form of the witchs ladder, a knotted rope or cord used to count repetitions during a spell or ritual. Praying with beads is a spiritual practice with a long history in most of the worlds religions. Sacred Mists Shoppe, Janet Farrar & Gavin Bone

CLERICAL CELIBACY

A hallmark of the Catholic Church is the enforced celibacy of its priests and nuns. However, this has been shown in fact to be celibacy largely in name only, as there are numerous examples of these celibates engaging in decidedly un-chaste behavior.

The Church records bear evidence of the complete degradation of the office of Pope in searing detail:

“At the time of Leo IX’s election in 1049, according to the testimony of St Bruno, Bishop of Segni, ‘the whole Church was in wickedness, holiness had disappeared, justice had perished, and truth had been buried; Simon Magus was lording it over the Church, whose popes and bishops were given to luxury and fornication. The scientific and ascetic training of the popes left much to be desired, the moral standard of many being very low and the practice of celibacy not everywhere observed. Bishops obtained their offices in irregular ways, whose lives and conversations are strangely at variance with their calling, who go through their duties not for Christ but for motives of worldly gain.

The members of the clergy were in many places regarded with scorn, and their avaricious ideas, luxury and immorality rapidly gained ground at the centre of clerical life. When ecclesiastical authority grew weak at the fountain head, it necessarily decayed elsewhere. In proportion, as the papal authority lost the respect of many, resentment grew against both the Curia and the papacy.’ Catholic Encyclopedia, vi, pp 793-4; xii, pp. 700-03, passim

In a triumph of understatement, the official publisher to the Vatican, in a book devoted to the history of the papacy, said the following: ‘The hidden history of doctrinal foundations that permitted a papal alliance with conflict and licentiousness, and to what degree decadence among the clergy is “partly true”, provides for an extraordinary story, one that has no precedent or parallel in the history of world religions. In the preface to an official papal record commissioned for publication by the Holy See, called The Popes: A Concise Biographical History, the Christian reader is tactfully prepared for some upcoming and unpleasant facts about popes with this apologetic admission: “Some Catholics may find surprises when they read the papal biographies in this book. The part we are accustomed to think of the pope playing in the Church may need a little adjustment.” The Popes: A Concise Biographical History, Eric John, ed., Burns & Oates, Publishers to the Holy See, London, 1964, p. 19, published under the imprimatur of Georgius L. Craven

The scandal of sex abuse among the Catholic clergy is well known, such as the preponderance of pregnant nuns, pedophile priests, homosexual popes, married popes, popes with illegitimate children, popes with incestuous affairs, popes having turned the Lateran Palace into a bordello, popes endowing lovers with cardinalates and bishoprics, buying and selling the papacy itself.

The earliest known admonitions against the practice of clerical sexuality are Canon 33 of the Council of Elvira (c. 305): ‘It is decided that marriage be altogether prohibited to bishops, priests, and deacons, or to all clerics placed in the ministry, and that they keep away from their wives and not beget children; whoever does this, shall be deprived of the honor of the clerical office.’ and; Canon 3 of the Council of Carthage (390): ‘It is fitting that the holy bishops and priests of God as well as the Levites, i.e. those who are in the service of the divine sacraments, observe perfect continence, so that they may obtain in all simplicity what they are asking from God; what the “apostles taught and what antiquity itself observed, let us also endeavour to keep… It pleases us all that bishop, priest and deacon, guardians of purity, abstain from conjugal intercourse with their wives, so that those who serve at the altar may keep a perfect chastity.’

On the other hand, in 325 the Council of Nicea rejected a ban on clerical celibacy at the request of the Spanish legation.

Later, we find canon law was codified as follows: ‘All the ordained ministers of the Latin Church, with the exception of permanent deacons, are normally chosen from among men of faith who live a celibate life and who intend to remain celibate “for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.” Called to consecrate themselves with undivided heart to the Lord and to “the affairs of the Lord”, they give themselves entirely to God and to men. Celibacy is a sign of this new life to the service of which the Church’s minister is consecrated; accepted with a joyous heart celibacy radiantly proclaims the Reign of God.’ Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Still, we find that there were many popes who were married and fathered children, not only with their wives, but also their concubines: Felix III 483-492; Hormidas 514-523; Silverus 536-537; Hadrian II 867-872; Clement IV 1265-1268; and Felix V 1439-1449 were all married. Alexander VI 1492-1503; Julius II 1503-1513; Paul III 1534-1549; Pius IV 1559-1565; Gregory XIII 1572-1585; and Leo XII 1823-1829. All were known to have fathered illegitimate children whilst occupying the Most High and Holy Throne of St. Peter.

Other Popes which are known to have been sexually active during their pontificate include: Sergius III 904911, adulterer; John X 914928, adulterer; John XII 955963, incest, adultery; Benedict IX, elevated to the Papacy in 1044, in 1045 and 10471048, unspeakably vile practices; Paul II 14641471, homosexual; Sixtus IV 14711484, homosexual; Leo X 15131521, homosexual; and Julius III 155-1555, homosexual.

To those who pose the question “What does the Bible say about married priests?”, this is a straw question as the Scriptures make no allowances for the office of priest, indeed all believers in Christ are considered priests of His Church, Peter 2:5 ‘You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.’

So, to the Catholic who insists that priestly celibacy is ordained of God, we find absolutely no Biblical instruction for this, as a matter of fact, the exact opposite: 1 Timothy 3:2 ‘A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; … 4 ‘One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?); … 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.’

Catholics use the Apostle Paul and his arguments for celibacy to bolster their position. However, a reading of Corinthians reveals that, yes, Paul addressed this very subject, but made it clear that celibacy was preferred, not commanded or required: 1 Corinthians 7:1 ‘Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. 6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. 7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. 9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.’

PERSECUTION OF PROTESTANTS AND JEWS

THE ‘HOLY’ INQUISITION

There is no period of the history of Catholicism so fraught with apologetic and denial, refutation and explanation as the Inquisition(s), except perhaps the stain of priestly sexual incontinence and abuse.

“The popes were not only murderers in the great style, but they also made murder a legal basis of the Christian Church and a condition of salvation.” The Cambridge Modern History, Vol. 1, pp. 673-77

“Anyone who attempts to construe a personal view of God which conflicts with Church dogma must be burned without pity.” Pope Innocent III

The Inquisitions were begun in 1184 and began with the Episcopal Inquisition which lasted from 1184-1230 and the Papal Inquisition which began in 1230. In 1231, Pope Gregory the IX took from the local bishops the power to punish heretics and gave it to the papacy under a tribunal system. In 1233 this was the Inquisition which was leveled at the Albigenses.

In 1252 Pope Innocent IV gave official sanction to the use of torture in the pursuit of these efforts at rooting out and punishing heresy. In 1536 the Portugese Inquisition was initiated, based upon the example of the Spanish Inquisition. In 1560 the Goa Inquisition began in an effort to root out false converts from Hinduism to Catholicism. In 1542 Pope Paul III began the Roman Inquisition and placed it under the Holy Office as a court of last resort, or final appeal, to decide all matters of heresy. It was this group which, in 1633, tried Galileo for heresy and banned all his writings.

Below we examine in some minor detail the workings of the Spanish Inquisition.

THE SPANISH INQUISITION

In June of 1492, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand gave the Muslim Moors and Jews of Spain who had not converted to Catholicism an ultimatum, convert or leave. They were given 6 months to comply. About 100,000 did so (and became known as ‘conversos’), but upwards of 300,000 remained. The failure of these Catholicized Jews and Moors to emigrate from Spain led the King and Queen to appeal to Pope Sixtus IV.

The Pope gave his permission for the establishment of an Inquisition.

Pope Sixtus appointed Tomas de Torquemada as the first Grand Inquisitor. Torquemada was the confessor of the Queen and also anti-Semitic. He drew up the instructions of how the Inquisition was to be carried out. The Inquisition was aimed at those born and raised as Christian as well as those who had converted from Judaism and Islam.

Torquemada and his two deputies, Dominican monks Miguel de Morillo and Juan de San Martin, carried out this most feared and well known of all Inquisitions.

Meticulous records put to paper by the shaky hand of scribes who detailed every moment of the ‘questioning’ and torture of those accused of heresy reveal a nearly 300 year history of some of the most horrible abuses ever to be committed by man against man, all in the name of ‘faith’.

Allegedly begun to root out heresy and those who propagated it, the Inquisition was ultimately used as a weapon of vengeance and control by the Papacy and it’s vast army of informers, jailers and torturers.

In cases of the most extreme heresy, the Church allowed methods of torture which included the use of: Flogging; the ‘Strappado’; water torture, and binding, among others. Women were stripped naked in order to humiliate them into an early confession. Failing that, torture was carried out.

Those accused by the Inquisitor were not told who had accused them, nor would they be told what crime against Christendom they had been accused of. Therefore no adequate defense could be mounted and the poor soul in the dungeon could languish there for days, weeks, months, or years, undergoing torture and deprivation to the point of insanity, never knowing why they were there.

Medieval prisons were the most horrible abodes of despair employed in history. Damp, cold, overrun with rats, snakes, spiders, halls echoing with the screams of torture and starvation, the putrid stench of disease, decay, and death.

Once a confession was literally wrung out of the poor soul, the climax of the Inquisition was the ‘auto de fe’, or ‘act of faith’. The ‘confessed’ heretic was shown to a hushed crowd numbering from the hundreds to the thousands, then brought before a tribunal of priests to receive sentence of punishment.

The Church had literally hundreds of punishments to choose from. Relatively banal punishments included the wearing of garments known as ‘San Benito’, worn at all times, which indicated the wearer was a heretic; imprisonment; banishment or exile. Death was reserved for those who refused to recant or recalcitrant’s who ran afoul of the Inquisitor and continued their heresies.

The Church would hand the accused over to civil authorities who carried out the sentence of death on their behalf. This allowed the Catholic church to claim to this day that no one was ever put to death by the Church during the Inquisition.

The method of execution was burning at the stake. If the fear of death by fire was too much to bear, the accused could then confess their heresy and they would be strangled to the death. Otherwise the fires would be lit.

The meticulous records of scribes present at these burnings are painfully clear. In stomach-churning detail they list the agony of those burned alive at the hands of the Holy Roman Catholic Church and the minions who served them.

In what is perhaps the act of ultimate theological futility and obsessive compulsion, persons long dead were also accused of heresy and burned in effigy as punishment for their sins.

In 1808, the armies of Napoleon Bonaparte conquered Spain and Bonaparte disbanded the Inquisition. In 1815, Spanish forces regained control and re-instituted the Inquisition.

The last accused heretic to be executed by the Inquisition was a school teacher accused of being a Deist. In 1826 he was executed by strangulation and interred by burial in a wooden barrel painted with flames in a gruesome parody of a burning.

Isabella II finally abolished the Inquisition in July 1854 when it became clear that public relations were at risk.

No Pope has ever specifically apologized for the Inquisition and indeed, Pope Paul VI reorganized this body in 1965 and named it the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which it remains to this day.

It’s most famous director was the Cardinal who became known in 2005 as Pope Benedict XVI.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 ‘Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.’

CONCLUSION

The ways of God are not the ways of man, as the ways of man are not God’s.

To live according to God’s will, a bridge must be crossed. That bridge is Salvation through faith in the risen Christ and the Guide is the Holy Spirit.

Remember, if the purveyor of truth does not begin and end with the Bible, if they twist scripture out of context, if they add to or take away from the Word, if they offer their own personal interpretation of the Holy Writ; follow them not. Pray for protection and flee from Satan and his works.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the only Son of the Living God, bless you.

Reflections on The End of Days

Greetings to my Brothers and Sisters in Christ, may the Love of our Father and of our Savior fill you and the joyful expectation of His soon return soothe your hearts.

In these days, we see the promise of His return is imminent. Though there are several events yet to pass, we see the end times prophecies being fulfilled before our eyes.

  • The Pope is bringing back into his fold many of the breakaway sects of Christianity that heretofore have rejected the overtures of Catholicism. Look for the embrace of Islam, Buddhism and even Scientology within the open arms of the Church of Rome.
  • Economies the world over are reeling from seismic highs and breathtaking lows as the control of central banks is asserted and the transfers of wealth increase in intensity.
  • War is an ever-present reality. Wars and rumors of wars are an everyday threat, encompassing a wide swath of humanity. The violence against Christians and Jews is increasing with a visceral hate unknown since the times of the Crusades and the Inquisitions.
  • Laws are being passed in western countries that specifically target Christians who prosletyze and hold services in their homes.
  • Abortion is on the rise and the vast numbers of children sacrificed to the god of convenience rivals that of the days of old when Moloch demanded payment with the blood of innocents.
  • Weather anomalies and natural disasters are on the rise with records being broken every day. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, torrential rains and blistering droughts are happening everywhere, even to snow and freezing temperatures in subtropical areas.
  • Meteorites, fireballs and unknown objects are falling out of the sky everywhere.
  • Birds dropping out of the air, fish and whales dying in masses, fouling shorelines all over the world.
  • Loud noises of uncertain origin are being emitted worldwide.
  • The love of self is taking on a frightening life of its own with people everywhere indulging in a wide range of perversities and publicly demanding acceptance of behavior that not long ago would be unthinkable.
  • Megachurches are filled every Sunday with tens of millions of self-professed Christians looking for Salvation but instead settling for the soothing words of ego-inflated Pastors who give them empty promises and take their congregants money to fill their bank accounts, wolves in sheeps clothing enrusted with the care of their flocks.
  • Remember that the only end times revival spoken of in the Word of God is reserved for Jews, the gentile world will experience a great falling away, a mass rejection of Christ and acceptance of the Beast system of false religion and empty faith.

We must embrace the world with the love of Christ but remain separate from it. We must be living examples of the truth of Salvation but have no part in the darkness of this world system. We must pray for our enemies but keep away from them lest we get caught up in vengeance, hate and violence.

Our Lord and Savior is with us always, even unto the end. Pay attention to what is happening and prepare yourselves in mind and spirit for the tests of faith that will be presented, even those tests that seem to be innocuous but are in reality designed by the Adversary especially for those of us who profess faith in Christ.

Pray always, read the Bible daily and share your faith with everyone you can.

May the Will of our Father be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven, and may Christ find us humble and ever seeking His Love and Guidance.

In the Name of Jesus be blessed, and may His hand of protection be extended to you all.

Catholic Doctrine of Atonement and Forgiveness

The following is a summation of the Catholic Doctrine of Atonement and Forgiveness. This is in answer to those who wonder why Pope Francis, during his homily in Philadelphia, said that Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross was a waste of time.

The facts below were mentioned in a presentation given by Walter Veith and verified by the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Encyclopedia. I am not a practicing Seventh-Day-Adventist but ‘the truth is the truth’ as the Forerunner says.

So, the Catholic Doctrine of Atonement and Forgiveness is:

JESUS WAS NOT BOTH FULLY HUMAN AND FULLY DIVINE

Jesus did not come to earth as fully human. He is too Holy to be defiled by humanity.

Mary is the special, immaculate (born of a virgin, gave birth as a virgin), vehicle God created to bring Jesus to Earth.

(That is why Mother Teresa said ‘No Mary, no Jesus’, ‘Know Mary, Know Jesus’.)

Because Jesus did not come fully down, He needs mediators (or, in the case of Mary, mediatrix).

Vehicles for mediation include the Catholic Church and the Sacraments. The Saints and Mary are co-mediators, co-redeemers.

Because God declared Mary as sinless, He could have done it for anyone, if so, there is no point to the Cross.

Because Mary was sinless she did not have to die, and she did not, she fell asleep and ascended into heaven just like Jesus, where she serves as co-redeemer.

The Church is the one who hands out grace. (Pope Francis has declared this the Year of Grace, in which the Church hands out indulgences, see Luther, Martin).

WHY, ACCORDING TO ROMAN CATHOLIC THEOLOGY, CAN THE POPE HAND OUT INDULGENCES? AND WHAT IS AN INDULGENCE?

{In Protestantism, Jesus came to this world, took on humanity in its fullness yet without sin. He linked His divinity with humanity and is the ladder which links fallen humanity to divinity and deity to fallen humanity.}

In Catholicism, Jesus only comes down to the level of intermediaries, with Mary at the head.

In Catholicism, Jesus did not have to die for you. He saves you by His good works. His death on the cross is considered ‘over and above the call of duty’. He did not have to die, and He did not die for you, He was murdered.

His death was unnecessary, there are other means to salvation.

God links Jesus good works to you because God was so pleased by Jesus actions that He (God) forgives the sinner as a consequence, the Blood not being the medium by which our sins are washed clean, but by the good intentions of Jesus.

In Catholicism, merit is transferable (much like a living Mormon getting baptized in the name of his deceased, non-Mormon, ancestors), whether from Jesus, Mary, or a Saint.

Merit is transferable only by the Pope in his priesthood. Where no merit exists, he draws from a ‘treasury of merit’, in which is the extra, ‘left over’ merit of Jesus, Mary and all the Saints.

WHY PURGATORY?

Because Jesus did not really die for us, nor take responsibility for our sins, we are still responsible for our sins.

We can be forgiven by merit (good works), but because we are still responsible for our sins, we cannot enter into heaven, even as a forgiven sinner.

God sends us to Purgatory so we can pay the consequence of our sin by suffering.

The death of Jesus is looked at as a good work by God, who sends you to purgatory so you have the possibility of atoning for your own sins, but intercession by saints, Popes and Mary can speed up the process.

Conclusion: not only did Jesus not die for you, he did not take the consequence of your sin.

Only the Church, through the Pope can hand out grace (forgiveness).

Only the Pope has the power to release you from purgatory, based on your good works and the merit of those he can draw from.

This denies Christ in his humanity, on the cross, in the atonement, in his meeting out of grace.

The Pope, when speaking ex cathedra (on doctrinal issues), is infallible and therefore is the source of truth.

The Pope, not the Bible, is the final word.

‘Dr.’ Rodney Howard-Browne

Rodney Howard Browne

Rodney Howard-Browne was born on June 12, 1961 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Raised in a Pentecostal family, Browne claims to have committed his life to Christ at the age of 5 and to have been filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit at 8. In 1979 at the age of 18, the direction of Browne’s life was determined. While at a prayer meeting for young adults, he challenged our Heavenly Father to a test of willpower by threatening suicide and screaming commands: “God, either you come down here tonight and touch me, or I’m going to die and come up there and touch you.” Apparently, the True Living God responds to threats because Browne claims that God immediately ‘anointed’ the young seeker. Young master Browne forthwith embarked upon a career as an itinerant preacher, claiming to have spent two years as pastor of Rhema Church in Johannesburg. However, a Rhema official is quoted as having said that “Rodney was never an associate pastor here. He was an ordained minister by the state and a lecturer at our Bible school, but was not involved in any form of pastoral work.”

In 1987, Browne, wife Adonica, and his inflated curricula vitae relocated to Florida to serve the parched mission fields of North America.

‘Dr.’ Browne claims a doctorate was awarded him in ‘ministry’ by The School of Bible Theology located in San Jacinto, California. This revered institution of higher learning modestly represents itself as “The Seminary to the World”, a feat of gargantuan proportions when one realizes that this is accomplished with no faculty. Unfortunately, it seems as though this stellar reputation has not reached the notice of state officials. The California State Department of Education unceremoniously dismisses this brainery as a ‘diploma mill’.

It is interesting that Browne chose a ‘seminary’ from which to obtain his ‘doctorate’. After all, he is quoted as saying “Too many people allow their education to make them unstable. I’ve noticed people, prior to going into seminary, who are totally qualified for the work of God, totally anointed, but they come out after several years of seminary totally ruined.” Totally. Then again, he must not have spent “several years” obtaining his degree of matriculation.

In 1989 the eminent Dr’s. Browne (by this time wife Adonica had also obtained a doctorate of murky origin) began a ministry known for signs and wonders where manifestations of the (alleged) Holy Spirit were characterized as ‘revivals’. This was the result of a series of meetings held at a church in Albany, New York. During a particularly lackluster evening, ‘Dr.’ Browne claims the Holy Spirit descended upon the room “like a cloud”. Browne was vexed at the gall of the Spirit of God in horning in on his action and told Him so: “Lord, you’re ruining my meeting.” The Sovereign of the Universe wittily quipped: “The way your meetings have been going lately, they deserve being ruined.” Whereupon the assembled faithful erupted in spontaneous hysterical laughter, screaming, uttering animalistic shrieks and grunts, body spasms and convulsions reminiscent of seizures, fainting and temporary paralysis, which behavior would later be known as ‘Holy Laughter’. These antics continued up to Browne’s appearances at Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, Florida and later at the Toronto ‘Blessing’.

In 1996 Browne founded The River at Tampa Bay church in Tampa Bay. In 1997 Browne founded Revival Ministries International.

An unrepentant paragon of greed, Browne is on record as instructing pastors in the basics of the ‘prosperity gospel’. At a winter ‘camp meeting’ at the University of Southern Florida in Tampa, the eminent Dr. Browne is quoted as having observed to the assembled clergy that “sheep need to be fleeced or they would have too much hair and could not see where they are going. It is the pastors job to fleece the sheep.” And what a fleecing they had in store.

Apparently ignorant of the misadventures of King Saul and his good friend the Witch of Endor, and the resultant admonitions of the Most High God, Browne is also an unrepentant necromancer. He claims that the disembodied spirit of Billy Graham appeared to him in a dream and told him that he would lead a revival rivaling that of the Madison Square Garden Crusade in 1957. The six-week crusade, free to attend, set Browne back millions of dollars and resulted in an average nightly headcount of about 3,000 lost souls. An embarrassingly anemic turnout for the 19,000 seat arena.

Although I have my theological differences with Graham, I strive to find an occasion in which he advised people NOT to pray. On the other hand, the esteemed Dr. Browne, at an event in November, 1996 at Carpenter’s Home Church (later broadcast on TBN), advised a man who was praying peacefully to “Stop praying now and let the joy bubble out your belly. Joy. Joy. Joy. Don’t pray! Laugh!”

The words of Jeremiah come to mind,14:13 “And the LORD said to me, ‘The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; 14 they prophesy to you a false vision, a divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.'”

Having said that, I defer to the previous work of the eminent theologians Dave Hunt & T.A. McMahon: “If the Bereans of old tested Paul by the Scriptures, then Rodney Howard-Browne must face the same test — and he fails it. We must have both doctrinal teaching and scriptural example to support a practice within the church, and there is neither for this phenomena. There is much about laughter in the Bible: the scornful laughter of unbelief (Genesis 17:17, 18:12-15; 2 Chronicles 30:10; Nehemiah 2:19; Job 12:4; Matthew 9:24, etc.); the laughter of joy (Genesis 21:6; Job 8:21; Psalm 126:2; Ecclesiastes 3:4, 10:19; Luke 6:21); derisive laughter by God (Psalm 2:4, 37:13, 59:8; Proverbs 1:26) and by the godly (2 Kings 19:21; Job 5:22, 22:19; Psalm 52:6; Isaiah 37:22) — but nothing like this new Howard-Browne fad. Nowhere does Scripture teach that laughter is a sign of a work of God in the heart; or of the infilling of the Holy Spirit; or that it is conducive to holy living. Nor is there any example of anyone producing laughter in others to a godly end. This is not to say that a simple believer trusting God may not receive a blessing by God’s mercy and grace at one of these meetings … in spite of Howard-Browne. Generally, however, the experience is one of manipulation and misplaced expectation without edifying biblical teaching, and may lead to deeper spiritual delusion and disappointment.”, (The Berean Call, October 1994, page 4)

Amen!

“You can’t have revival without stirring up the flesh….When revival comes you will see manifestations of these three things in meetings: (1) the Holy Spirit; (2) the flesh, and (3) the devil. But, I’d rather be in a church where the devil and the flesh are manifesting than in a church where nothing is happening because people are too afraid to manifest anything…Don’t worry about it. And if a devil manifests, don’t worry about that, either. Rejoice, because at least something is happening!” (‘Dr.’ Rodney Howard-Browne)

‘Revival’ indeed. Appealing to the base instinct for survival and universal acceptance, twisted serpents like Browne have forgotten one thing. The Lord Himself has stated that revival will NOT be a last-days sign of the Second Coming: 2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day will not come, except there come a falling away first…”

The renowned ‘Dr.’ Browne likes to play the role of faith healer as well. He claims to have performed numerous miraculous healings, but has never produced any substantiating evidence. When confronted with congregants who are deaf, palsied, crippled, wheelchair bound or otherwise obviously afflicted, Browne passes them over, ignoring them to lay hands on those with cancer and other ‘Illnesses’ not readily visible to the casual observer.

It is at this point that I must break from the overview of the career of the theologically benighted ‘Dr.’ Browne and bring up a tragic event. I do so advisedly. It is of paramount importance that people see this mountebank for what he is. It is my prayer that this might be accomplished by going into the following story.

Browne’s 18 year-old daughter, Kelly, died of cystic fibrosis at around 4:00 am Christmas morning, 2002. Browne unbelievably attempted to capitalize on this tragic loss by playing on the sympathy of others with a smarmy appearance on television on June 18, 2003 in which he relayed the following story.

Apparently, as medicine-man to the soul-sick, ‘Dr.’ Browne was so sure of his ability to resurrect the dead that he promised Kelly that he would do so for her. Browne says that since the funeral home was unable to inter her for an extended period of time, he had the corpse put on display in his church office, where the Dr’s. Browne and other assorted clerics prayed over her for hours on end. Browne, in an abhorrent endorsement of necromancy, claimed that an assistant pastor visited heaven and had a conversation with Kelly in which she told the pastor that she was perfectly happy and was quite unwilling to console her grieving parents by returning to her body and fulfilling the prayers of resurrection that were being offered.

Benny Hinn, himself a shaman to the spirit-filled, who claims to have raised untold numbers from the dead, must have been unavailable.

“I remember one service where I just went and sat down for an hour and a half. I just went and sat down. Well, there was nothing else I could do. Total pandemonium–people falling off of their chairs, people crying, people laughing and some were wailing–some were shaking. So, I just said to the people, I said, ‘Look, just come up when you’re ready and lift your hands and God will touch you.’ I was sitting on the platform–just sat there and watched them for about an hour and a half. People came right up, got to the front, lifted their hands–BAM!–on the floor. I just sat there. I didn’t even pray. You say, ‘What’d you do?’ I just sat there and twiddled my thumbs. I thought, ‘Lord, I wish every meeting was as easy as this.’ Now I had preached the word already and taught the word of God, and then I went and sat down. And they came walking up, got to the front, lifted their hands–BAM!–under the power of God.”
(Rodney Howard-Browne, TBN video-taped service which was broadcast on May 1994, p.23-24.)

Browne directly contravenes the established exegesis of the method by which faith is obtained, defined by Paul in his letter to the Romans, 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God“.

Browne modestly sees himself as a latter-day spiritual mixologist to the millions of people who fill auditoriums and churches with what for all the world look like cloned crowds of a reanimated, charismatic Foster Brooks: “I’m just the Holy Ghost bartender, I just serve the new wine and tell them to come drink.” “Take another drink…the bar is open….Be filled! We loose the power! Have another drink!”

At other times he complains that the Holy Spirit interrupts his attempts at sermonizing by forcing the attendant listeners into paroxysms of mirth: “‘One night I was preaching on hell,’ Howard-Browne says, ‘and [laughter] just hit the whole place. The more I told people what hell was like, the more they laughed'”

I refer the august Dr. Browne to Solomon: Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.”

Responding to those who, at a church event, had the impertinence to call him out on his unsound theology, Browne retorted: “I’m telling you right now, you’ll drop dead if you prohibit what God is doing!” (Melodyland Christian Center, Anaheim, CA, January 17, 1995)

We must pray that Rodney Howard-Browne, an obviously mislead and apparently empty vessel, reverses course, repents of his sin, and earnestly seeks after forgiveness. He should manifest his repentance by going to those whom he has lead to damnation and, using his influence and fame, convince them to pray to Jesus for forgiveness, cleansing, and discernment.

“Take your Bible, everything that God is going to do is going to have its foundation within the scripture. If you can’t find it in the scripture then you don’t want it. And if you don’t follow the word of God you’re going to open yourself up to manifestations and there will be signs and wonders and it will be New Age and it will be crazy stuff and it will have devastating effects on an individual’s life.” (‘Dr.’ Rodney Howard-Browne to Sid Roth on “It’s Supernatural”, December 3rd, 2014)

Sid Roth

Sid Roth

Sid Roth, born May 30, 1936, is a leading light of the messianic roots movement.

Sid began as an executive at Merrill Lynch. In 1972 he had a personal crisis that began with leaving his wife and child and engaging in a search for answers to life’s questions via a trip through the New Age wonderland and culminating in a conversion to Christianity. He eventually reconciled to his family.

In 1977 he launched his radio ministry, ‘Messianic Vision’. His outreach has grown immeasurably since then. His television program, ‘It’s Supernatural’, was begun in 1996, and is based in Georgia.

Roth is quoted in his newsletter, the Mishpochah, as equating the promise of God to bless those who bless Israel with the prosperity gospel. Send him money and you will avoid the economic collapse effecting the world. (this is from 2009):

Dear Mishpochah. I am bursting with expectancy for 2009! This will be our greatest year of Jewish soulwinning in history. When the ancient Jewish spiritual DNA merges with the New Covenant Gentile spiritual DNA, it will explode with “life from the dead” resurrection power as One New Man (Eph. 2:14-16). The devil is trembling and about to have a nervous breakdown over the emergence of the One New Man. Speaking of a nervous breakdown, God is not nervous about the economy. He is ready to pour out financial blessings to capture this great Jewish harvest based on Genesis 12:3. God promises to bless those who bless the Jewish people. The greatest blessing for the Jewish people is not aliyah (returning to Israel) or humanitarian aid, but salvation. “He who wins souls is wise” (Prov. 11:30). Thank you for partnering with us for the greatest Jewish harvest in history! Shalom and Love, Sid Roth. Donate Now (link). Mishpochaah Newsletter, March 29th, 2009.

TBN, it’s upstart sibling, DayStar, and The Discovery Channel broadcast this mishmash of nonsensical messianic gibberish.

In 2013, Roth launched the ‘It’s Supernatural’ Network, ISN. ISN is home to a 24-hour internet streaming schedule populated by heretics, charismatics, boosters of the new apostolic reformation, prosperity preachers, name-it and claim-it gospel promoters and other assorted false prophets and teachers.

Roth’s website (sidroth.org) is a mirror of his television show, ‘It’s Supernatural’. The first page is a slideshow of his friends, including Benny Hinn and Rick Joyner. His ‘Store’ page includes books by Marilyn Hickey and Benny Hinn as well as such items integral to spreading the gospel as a cook’s apron and commuter cups that say ‘Crazy for Jesus’. There is even a DVD on ‘How to be Normal’, and books by Perry Stone on Bible codes and apocalyptic revelations.

Roth is a proponent of the Messianic Roots movement and a supporter of Christian mysticism. He promotes people who claim to speak directly to God, have personally visited heaven, have the ‘gift’ of healing, and divine, extrabiblical revelation. As a matter of fact, Sid ascribes nearly all supernatural manifestations as emanating from God, hence his close affiliation for and promotion of the likes of: false prophet and faith healer Benny Hinn; numerologist necromancer Perry Stone; blab-it and grab-it carney Marilyn Hickey; faith healer Kathleen Kuhlman (who died from open heart surgery); Holy Ghost bartender and ‘holy’ laughter mystic Rodney Howard Browne; and new ager, false prophet Rick Joyner, among others

Roth, in the vein of Simon Magus, offers to impart the gifts of the Spirit for a fee. His website contains a CD called ‘How to Be Naturally Supernatural’ by David Martin. “David Martin shares a supernatural impartation and powerful keys from God to do the same works that Jesus did! Just listen and receive.”

“Just listen and receive”. “You can do the SAME works that Jesus did”. Pardon me while I move aside out of the line of fire of that lightning bolt I anticipate to hit my laptop any minute now.

Good grief.

Sideshow carney Sid Roth doesn’t stop at peddling such utter nonsense, he indicts himself by his own words:

In an enthusiastic sales pitch for the book ‘A Rabbi Looks At The Last Days!’, by Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Bernis, Roth says: “Most end-time Bible teachers forecast a future of DOOM and GLOOM! But this book declares that God’s best is yet to come — a time of supernatural healing, deliverance, miracles and Signs and Wonders!”

So here we have a direct refutation of the words of Christ Himself when He said of the last days, Matthew 24:21 “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now-and never to be equaled again. 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect-if that were possible.” Matthew 24:29 “Immediately after the distress of those days ” ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ 30 “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.”

SID: Hello. Sid Roth here with Janie DuVall, and we’re talking about supernatural languages. I believe that God wants to restore this gift for the last great push of God’s spirit. As I study the great men and women of God throughout history one ingredient is left out, but it’s in the record, Janie, and that is they all have spoke in supernatural languages. (Sid Roth with Janie DuVall, It’s Supernatural, November 29 – December 5, 2010)

I have searched the scriptures and have yet to find ‘supernatural languages’ as an impartation of the Holy Spirit. I also have yet to see any prophecy ascribed to any author of the Bible that indicates that God will or “wants to restore this gift for the last great push of God’s spirit”. One does read about the day of Pentecost and the Apostles preaching to the masses in Jerusalem, each in his own tongue, understood by all.

Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. 12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.”

So, nothing about ‘supernatural’ languages. Nothing about incomprehensible glossolalia. Just the ability to speak in human language not their own, and Dr. Luke gives us a list of the languages they spoke.

But Roth doesn’t stop at promoting the babbling of tongues, he is a master salesman. He promotes a prosperity doctrine so disguised in evangelism that it beggars disbelief. Roth publishes a newsletter called the Mishpochah. He offers free six-month subscriptions on his website. Here is a direct quote: “…no matter what happens to America, people who sow into the salvation of Jewish people will be extravagantly blessed. In the midst of judgment, watch God supernaturally protect you, your family, your income and health” (Mishpochah Newsletter). The seed-faith keyword ‘sow’ is prominently used here in a not-so-subtle plea for ‘donations’ from those Christians who believe that Roth’s ministry is interested in converting Jews and not about promoting his entertainment empire.

“Jesus not only promised us we would do the same works as Him, but that we would do even greater works (John 14:12).”

“The days are coming quickly that my friend Kathryn Kuhlman prophesied about. She said hospitals would be cleared out because of the anointing. Everyone will be healed.”

“I believe the population of entire cities will become on-fire believers in Messiah Jesus.”

“The beginning of this revival will start this year.”

Mishpochah, Number 1501 January, 2015.

Unfortunately for false prophet Sid, Jesus promised a great falling away, not a great revival. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”

As previously stated, it is not the business of this writer to question a person’s heart, only their actions, the ‘fruits’ of their professed faith. Having said that, Sid Roth may very well be born again and just on a path of confusion and self-deception, if so, he can join the ranks of many saved brothers and sisters who need a spiritual awakening. However, the fallacies and heresies with which he peppers his ministry and the promoters of dark lies and deceptions with whom he allies himself (and to whom he gives airtime) are a reflection of his spirit. He should turn from these workers of iniquity and hopefully use his bully pulpit in the furtherance of the true gospel, the Good News of the Resurrection and Salvation offered by that highest of high priests, Jesus Christ, the Messiah that came from the bosom of his people as the Source of Eternal Life and now sits at the right hand of God.

Marilyn Hickey

marilyn hickey

Marilyn Hickey was born on the 1 of July in 1931. She is the widow of Reverend Wallace Hickey (Wallace passed away in 2012, age 87). Hickey is the mother of two children, Sarah and Michael (adopted).

Husband Wallace founded the Orchard Road Christian Center in Denver, Colorado, the pastorate of which rests in the hands of daughter Sarah and son-in-law Reece Bowling.

Hickey is the founder of Marilyn Hickey Ministries International and is the co-host, with daughter Sarah, of the Marilyn & Sarah TV show which airs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and DayStar Television.

Marilyn Hickey is a false teacher by virtue of the following verses:

1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.;

1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Women employed as construction workers alongside men and women preaching exegetically the Word of God from the pulpits are two completely different things. It it not within the scope of this discernment ministry to debate the equal pay provisions of the labor laws, however, we are entrusted with the responsibility of exposing the works of darkness and those who profit from them.

Having established the foregoing conclusion, let us examine in detail the efforts of this worker of iniquity to line her pockets with the tithes of good, if mislead, Christians.

Hickey is an enthusiastic promoter of word-faith charismatic pentacostalism and promotes ‘holy’ laughter, seed-faith, blab-it-and-grab-it, speaking in tongues and ‘holy’ fire. She sells herself as having a deeper relationship with God than her congregants, which faith she shares long distance via the sending out of specious and desperate pleas for money, er, tithes, and the use of objects of faith a la Robert Tilton (blessed pennies, prayer cloths, anointing oil, faith-focus photographs, et cetera) the use and return of which (along with a ‘seed’ of faith, read: check, cash or money order) will ensure the sender a personal intercession by Hickey with God and the answering of prayer, whether it be a new car or healing or a raise.

Hickey is known for a book called ‘Break The Genrational Curse‘, in which she claims that all manner of spiritual and physical ailments that falls upon Christians are sourced by curses from generations past. By following her methods, these curses can be lifted and perfect physical health and worldly happiness enjoyed. Hickey expounds a theology that includes determining, through divine revelation, the source of a curse and invoking the power of Jesus and binding of Satan’s power resulting in a removal of the curse, this includes curses that are brought upon people by those who may have lived on their property and did not worship God, thus infecting the area with a curse that then descends upon the new inhabitants.

It is at this point that I point out the incredibly occult nature of this outlook, and the dangerous waters upon which Hickey’s followers tread when looked at in the light of biblical injunctions against spellcraft and invocation.

As an unapologetic proponent of the word-faith and prosperity gospels, Hickey is straightforward in her demonstrations of speak-it wealth making; “What do you need? Start creating it. Start speaking about it. Start speaking it into being. Speak to your billfold. Say, “You big, thick billfold full of money.” Speak to your checkbook. Say, “You, checkbook, you. You’ve never been so prosperous since I owned you. You’re just crammed full of money.” (Audio tape #186, “Claim Your Miracles.” Side 2).

On October 28, 2014, Benny Hinn hosted Hickey on his television program ‘This Is Your Day’. Hinn gushed, “In my opinion this sweet lady is one of the greatest Bible teachers in the world” (youtube.com, “This Is Your Day with Benny Hinn, Guest Marilyn Hickey Prophecy in Daniel Part 1”).

Hickey, in her own words:

“I have a prayer meeting in my house where we pray in the spirit, for one hour.” (youtube.com, “This Is Your Day with Benny Hinn, Guest Marilyn Hickey Prophecy in Daniel Part 1”)

“The Holy Ghost language is praying in tongues” (youtube.com, “58 Marilyn Hickey – Prayer 3 of 8 (Praying in the Spirit, 2 – The Lord’s Prayer)”)

“When we pray in tongues, not only does it open us up to see what we would not have known, but it also opens us up to compare spiritual things with spiritual things” (ibid)

(Praying in tongues )”opens deeper intimacy with God. When you begin to pray in the spirit, your mind doesn’t know. It doesn’t come through your mind. You don’t learn this language here (points to her head), this language is a heart language, it comes through your heart. I remember the first time I heard myself praying in tongues. I thought, well, this is just gibberish. Well, it was gibberish, to my brain. but it wasn’t to my spirit. And the Holy Spirit brought power into my life.” (youtube.com, “Baptism of the Holy Spirit Part 2”)

What does God have to say about the heart?

Genesis 6:5 “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Deuteronomy 8:17 “And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.”

Deuteronomy 11:16 “Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them.”

Deuteronomy 15:9 “Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart,”

Deuteronomy 30:17 “But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them.”

1 Kings 2:44 “Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to.”

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

What about the mind?

Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Acts 20:19 “Serving the Lord with all humility of mind.”

Romans 7:25 “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.”

Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”

Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Romans 14:5 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”

Romans 15:6 “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

What about speaking in tongues? Remember, Hickey says that the mind thinks tongues is gibberish, but the heart understands it?

“What many churches call “speaking in tongues” today is nothing like what the Bible records in the books of Acts and Corinthians. The miracle that occurred on the Day of Pentecost in A.D. 31 (Acts:2:4-8) was one of communication—apparently both in the speaking and the hearing. The Greek word translated “tongues” is glossa and means “languages.” The miracle of speaking in tongues meant that every member of the audience could hear in his or her native tongue (language, see Acts:2:9-11).” (“What does the Bible say about speaking in tongues?” ucg.org)

Acts 2:1 “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.”

Doesn’t sound like gibberish, sounds like languages of men, understood by the hearers, each in his own language.

1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

So what’s the point of praying in ‘tongues’, if tongues (language) is a sign for them that believe not, for to be used in proseletyzing to the unsaved?

And what of this ‘unknowable’ language? Acts 2:6 make sit clear that these were languages spoke by the hearer and unknown only to the speaker, “every man heard them speak in his own language.”
Hickey seems to be espousing a gospel of self-edification, but the Scriptures are clear on this. The gifts of the Spirit are for the edification of the Church, not the self. 1 Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” (withal = the common good, everyone, the church, the body of Christ)

Let us pray that this woman repents of her sin and begins healing the wounds of ignorance she has caused through the spread of her false gospel.

Todd Bentley

bentley

Todd Bentley was born on January 10, 1976 in Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada.

He became a Christian at the age of 18. In 1998 Bentley took over the leadership of the Fresh Fire Ministry and began traveling throughout South America, India and Africa, participating in various revivals.

The following are excerpts from a sermon calledThe Shack and the False Prophet Todd Bentley‘, by C. Matthew Recker at Heritage Baptist Church.

Bentley claims the Lord tells him to pound people in the stomach and brags that they vomit up cancer.

Neither Jesus nor the apostles ever hit anyone to heal them. Jesus was meek and lowly of heart and only healed with words and sometimes with touches of compassionate gentleness (Mark 1:41; Luke 13:12).

Bentley boasts that Jesus speaks audibly to him and even told him to lie that he had a demonic spirit while attending a Catholic charismatic meeting. – (youtube.com/watch?v=HtSK9TyduR4)

Jesus is truth and speaks only truth and His true servants speak the truth in love (John 14:6; Ephesians 4:15). We do not win people to Christ nor experience revival through lies.

The Jesus of Todd Bentley only cares about “healing and signs and wonders.” – (youtube.com/watch?v=uwEW8gtxVS0&NR=1)

Jesus tells us that “an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign” and he rebukes those who will not believe except they “see signs and wonders” (Matthew 12:39; John 4:48).

Bentley shouts BAM, BAM over and over as he supposedly releases “the angels of revival and of breakthrough.” – (youtube.com/watch?v=7Bup1HxKl-s&feature=related)

God’s people pray to God for revival as in Psalm 85:4-7. Turn us, O God of our salvation…wilt thou not revive us again…show us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation.” God brings revival, not angels!

Bentley believes in a prophetic angel named Emma. He prays to this angel when he needs a financial breakthrough. He can be seen shouting over and over “ANGEL, ANGEL!” – (youtube.com/watch?v=nIUOwfBEYfk)

Below, in Bentley’s own words, we learn how he met with the demonic spirit that he passes off as ‘Emma’, an angel, and how a church gifted him with a tremendous financial offering as a result of this ‘angelic’ visitation:

Quote: “Now let me talk about an angelic experience with Emma. Twice Bob Jones asked me about this angel that was in Kansas City in 1980: “Todd, have you ever seen the angel by the name of Emma?” He asked me as if he expected that this angel was appearing to me. Surprised, I said, “Bob, who is Emma?” He told me that Emma was the angel that helped birth and start the whole prophetic movement in Kansas City in the 1980s. She was a mothering-type angel that helped nurture the prophetic as it broke out. Within a few weeks of Bob asking me about Emma, I was in a service in Beulah, North Dakota. In the middle of the service I was in conversation with Ivan and another person when in walks Emma. As I stared at the angel with open eyes, the Lord said, “Here’s Emma.” I’m not kidding. She floated a couple of inches off the floor. It was almost like Kathryn Khulman in those old videos when she wore a white dress and looked like she was gliding across the platform. Emma appeared beautiful and young-about 22 years old-but she was old at the same time. She seemed to carry the wisdom, virtue and grace of Proverbs 31 on her life.

She glided into the room, emitting brilliant light and colors. Emma carried these bags and began pulling gold out of them. Then, as she walked up and down the aisles of the church, she began putting gold dust on people. “God, what is happening?” I asked. The Lord answered: “She is releasing the gold, which is both the revelation and the financial breakthrough that I am bringing into this church. I want you to prophecy that Emma showed up in this service-the same angel that appeared in Kansas city-as a sign that I am endorsing and releasing a prophetic spirit in the church.” See, when angels come, they always come for a reason; we need to actually ask God what the purpose is. Within three weeks of that visitation, the church had given me the biggest offering I had ever received to that point in my ministry. Thousands of dollars! Thousands! Even though the entire community consisted of only three thousand people, weeks after I left the church the pastor testified that the church offerings had either doubled or tripled.prophecynews.co.uk/content/view/871/

A cursory search of Bentley in action reveals his ‘healing’ techniques (the following are from the article Pastor Todd Bentley sticks the boot in to heal sick‘, heraldsun.com.au, News Corp Australia Network August 06, 2012):

“And I’m thinking God why is not the power of God moving. He said “It’s because you haven’t kicked that woman in the face.” And there’s this older lady worshiping right in front of the platform [Bentley holds up hands as if worshiping. Crowd laughs]. And the Holy Spirit spoke to me, the gift of faith came on me, He said “Kick her in the face – with your biker boot! [Bentley holds up leg and foot for crowd, he is wearing a biker boot. Crowd laughing hysterically.] I inched closer and I went like this [he kicks out forcefully and screams] – Bam! And just as my boot made contact with her nose, she fell under the power of God.”

“And I saw Him and the gift of faith came on me and I said, “What do I do God?” God told me to just – “run em’ down!” So I jumped up in the air and I went – BAM! and I hit em’ to the ground, jumped on to him, and got him in a full mount, and something came over me, and instead of punching him I grabbed him by the neck and started choking him [yelling and making motion as if he is choking someone] and I said, [now screaming] “Come out of him devil, come out of him devil…”

I have diligently searched the scriptures for every instance of healing I could find. The only times physical contact occurred, it was a gentle touch. Not once was anyone violently assaulted in the name of healing.

Bentley is also a proponent of ‘holy’ laughter, ‘holy’ shaking, and perversions of the teaching ministries of Jesus and Paul; “I’m going to make a statement that you might not believe; you might even find it offensive. Fortunately, its not just my opinion; I got it from the apostle Paul who picked it up from Jesus—so don’t get upset with me! Here it is: You haven’t fully preached the Gospel of Christ if you haven’t done it with miracles, signs, and wonders.” Todd Bentley, ‘The Reality of the Supernatural World‘, Destiny Image, Inc. p. 71, June 2008.

More from Bentley:

“The woman was standing in the back of the room when the faith of God hit the meeting, and her tumor exploded out of her right leg, slid down her leg onto the floor!”

“God said, ‘…I want you to grab that lady’s crippled legs and bang them up-and-down on the platform like a baseball bat.’ (loud laughter) …I grabbed her legs, and I started going, BAM! BAM! …banging them…. She got healed!”

“And there is this older lady worshiping right in front of the platform. And the Holy Spirit spoke to me; the gift of faith came on me. He said, ‘Kick her in the face with your biker-boot’…I went like this (kicks and shouts) BAM! And just as my boot made contact with her nose, she fell under the power of God.”

“During a visitation, the pastor’s wife got totally whacked by the Holy Ghost. She began running around barking like a dog or squawking like a chicken as a powerful prophetic spirit came on her.”

Eyewitness reports from these services are chilling (Todd Bentley and the Lakeland Revival, todd-bentley-lakeland.blogspot.com) :

“The crowds following Bentley are seen being overcome by ugly spirits of drunkenness and stupor. It reflects the faulty theology of those in ‘The River’ movement popularized by the so-called ‘Toronto Blessing.’ Song lyrics reflect Kingdom-Now visions of the church taking over all the elements of society and setting up a kingdom on earth before the Lord returns – which the Bible contradicts.” Jacob Prasch

“People have their eyes rolled back in the back of their heads. There are reports of women gyrating and pulsating like they’ve been ravaged from behind by some unseen force. To those who are knowledgeable of the previous ‘revivals’ and the power of the occult, the jury is in. The source is not the God of the Bible.” Mike Oppenheimer

Bentley also believes that he has a direct line to God and has conversations with Him regularly. Bentley’s god puts an emphasis on people believing in an angel and that they need signs and wonders to help them in their faith: “You know I told the Lord, “Why can’t I just move in healing and forget talking about all that other stuff.” He said: ” Because, Todd, you’ve got to get the people to believe in the angel”. I said, “Why do I want people to believe in the angel. Isn’t it about the people believing in Jesus?” He said, “The people already believe in Jesus but the church doesn’t believe in the supernatural.” Todd Bentley – “Told by God” to preach angels not Jesus’, youtube.com

The angel Bentley is preaching is Emma-O, previously mentioned as the angel appearing in Kansas City in 1980 and in Beulah, North Dakota to Bentley. Emma-O is a satanic manifestation masquerading as an angel of light. Bentley had described Emma as a male and a female manifestation and most recently as a gender neutral ‘special angel’. Bentley in his own words: “She floated a couple of inches off the floor. It was almost like Kathryn Khulman in those old videos when she wore a white dress and looked like she was gliding across the platform. Emma appeared beautiful and young-about 22 years old-but she was old at the same time. She seemed to carry the wisdom, virtue and grace of Proverbs 31 on her life.”

Bentley refers to one of the original Kansas City ‘prophets’, Bob Jones, as the source of his understanding of Emma and who s/he is. Bentley is quoted: “Now let me talk about an angelic experience with Emma. As I stared at the angel with open eyes, the “Lord” said, “Here’s Emma.” I’m not kidding. She floated a couple of inches off the floor. It was almost like Kathryn Khulman in those old videos when she wore a white dress and looked like she was gliding across the platform. Emma appeared beautiful and young-about 22 years old-but she was old at the same time. She seemed to carry the wisdom, virtue and grace of Proverbs 31 on her life.” The Angel Emma, thebereancall.org/node/6794

Much more can be found online about Emma.

Bentley’s marriage, to first wife Shonnah, began to fall apart soon after his Lakeland Revival meetings began. Prior to becoming divorced, Bentley was involved in a relationship with a ministry employee named Jessa. In her own words, Jessa admits the adulterous nature of their relationship; “Even though Todd was getting a divorce and Todd was already separated, it was still wrong for us to have anything romantic, regardless if anything physical happened or not,” Jessa Bentley said. “Even that emotional line that we crossed, I think is wrong. I think it was a sin. I think it was a mistake. I think we missed it.”, Todd Bentley’s New Wife Breaks Silence, Adrienne S. Gaines, CharismaMag.com, October 15, 2009.

Shonnah Bentley has suffered from bone cancer and had her left knee removed when she was 16. So Todd Bentley claims to have raised 31 people from the dead and he was unable to cure his wife’s disability?

According to the scriptures that Bentley claims to believe, that he was involved in a relationship with another woman before his divorce was final, and because his divorce was not due to his wife’s infidelity, that makes him an adulterer and his remarriage makes his new wife and adulteress and also puts Shonnah in the position of committing adultery. Quite a track record for a man of God.

Matthew 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Matthew 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Bentley has had no verifiable prophecies, which makes him a false prophet.

Deuteronomy 18:22 “If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him”

Jeremiah 28:9 “But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the Lord only if his prediction comes true”

Please pray for Todd Bentley, that he will come to true repentance and ask for forgiveness for his sins before it is too late.

T. D. Jakes

T.D. Jakes

Thomas Dexter ‘T.D.’ Jakes was born on June 9, 1957 in South Charleston, West Virginia.

Jakes mother, Odith, a schoolteacher (home economics); and father, Ernest, owner of a janitorial services business with 43 employees, instilled in him a reverence of God and a strong work ethic.

Jakes and Serita Ann Jamison were married in 1981, producing 5 children.

In 1982 Jakes ministry began in Montgomery, West Virginia as preacher of Greater Emanuel Temple of Faith, a small, storefront independent Pentecostal church with 10 members. Jakes moved his congregation several times in the ensuing years, growing in numbers, popularity and wealth until moving with 50 employees and their families to Dallas in 1996. He purchased the Eagle’s Nest Church which had been started by disgraced televangelist W. V. Grant, Jr., sentenced to prison for tax fraud.

Jakes’ church, The Potter’s House, in Dallas, Texas, is non-denominational (thepottershouse.org/Local/About-Us), however Jakes originally converted into Oneness Pentacostalism, a denomination which denies the Trinity. Jakes in 2012 revealed to Mark Driscoll that he did believe in the Trinity, but did not confirm the eternality of Them.

Jakes calls himself an Apostle, a Prophet and a Bishop. Let us examine how the Bible defines these words and then apply those definitions to the life and theology of T. D. Jakes.

It is not within the scope of my analysis to question this man’s personal relationship with God, or the validity of his Salvation in Christ. I am only interested in judging a tree by the fruit it produces and whether the tree grows on a foundation of solid scriptural authority.

Everything herein is based upon exegesis and hermeneutic examination of the Scriptures; accepted definitions; quotes from Jakes’ recordings, broadcasts, written material; and legal findings. I will not include unsubstantiated personal attacks, rumor, innuendo or character assassination. Much of this work is based on my understanding of the Scriptures; information obtained has sources.

An Apostle is defined as: ‘each of the twelve chief disciples of Jesus Christ.’, (google.com); ‘any one of the 12 men chosen by Jesus Christ to spread the Christian religion.’, (merriam-webster.com);

The above, commonly accepted definitions of the word therefore would seem to exclude the presence of an Apostle in the present day. From whom is the Apostolic authority conferred? Do we take Jakes’ word for it that ‘God spoke’ to Him? I think not.

Revelation 2:2 “I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false”

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.

A Prophet is defined in the Bible as one who speaks with the voice of God, giving warnings of coming events. All such utterances come to fruition and the test of a true prophet is, if any of their prophecies fail to come to pass, they are not prophets of the living God.

A Bishop is defined as: “a senior member of the Christian clergy, typically in charge of a diocese and empowered to confer holy orders.” (google.com)

1 Timothy 3:1-7, “The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer (bishop), he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.”

So, by that definition, Jakes qualifies as a Bishop of his congregation at The Potter’s House. There is no evidence heretofore obtained that indicates from whom his bishopric was conferred, this seems to be a self-given title, though the possibility remains that he was so appointed by the board of The Potter’s House.

“There are two biblical offices in the local church (Pastor and Deacon), both of which are chosen by the congregation. Scripture uses the term pastor, elder, overseer, and bishop interchangeably to refer to one position (c.f. Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-5). These four terms indicate various features of leadership ministry, not varying levels of authority or separate offices. The pastor (along with the servicing leadership of the deacons) provides spiritual and theological leadership in order to equip and build up the church. As spiritual shepherds of the local church, pastors serve in developing (not dictating) church policy along with congregational input and affirmation (c.f. Acts 15:1-29); oversee the church (Acts 20:28); rule, teach, and preach (1 Timothy 5:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:12); exhort and refute (Titus 1:9); and set the example as to what it means to shepherd the church (1 Peter 5:1-3). The pastor provides spiritual oversight, theological direction and leadership, and is held accountable by the Elder Board, the church congregation in general and, ultimately, God Himself.” – charlesspecht.com/20-qualifications-every-pastor-must-possess/

Jakes is famously quoted as saying that “Jesus is the product” (Scarborough Reports, youtube.com) and that he (Jakes) is selling this product. Preachers that define our Lord and Saviour with a verb used for new cars or toasters should reexamine their priorities and whether salesmanship has any place in preaching the Word of God. Jesus is God, the Almighty Who created the Earth and everything on it and inspired the Word. He is Mighty and Great and is not a ‘product’.

Jakes has recently partnered with acknowledged New Age guru and apostate, Oprah Winfrey in her ‘Lifeclass Series’. Jakes alone has an astounding 122 results on a search of oprah.com/lifeclass. One would think this a great opportunity to spread the Gospel to a limitless number of people who desperately need it, but there are few, if any, mentions of Jesus, sin, the existence of hell, or the need for Salvation. Along with characters such as Rob Bell, Joel Osteen, Devon Franklin, Rick Warren, et al, there are nebulous mentions of God, Jesus, and scripture taken out of context, but no exposition of the Good News of the Gospel.

Jakes’ entire message seems to be that if it make you feel good do it, don’t regret the past, and you are your own best judge of right and wrong. This code of ethics is entirely worldly and devoid of the personal responsibility we hold to our Creator for sin and the necessity of seeking to Jesus for Salvation and God for forgiveness.

Jakes has a very special and interesting connection to that grand peré of the nascent syncretism of New Age nonsense and Christian mysticism, Deepak Chopra. In 2012, they teamed up for a television program on the OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) called “Living From the Core”. The following is from the ‘Stand Up For The Truth’ website:

Emmy Award-winning series “Bishop T.D. Jakes and Deepak Chopra: Living From the Core” will simulcast on-air and online on OWN, Oprah.com and Facebook.com / OWNtv July 1 at 11am ET/PT.
“Lifeclass all-star teachers Bishop T.D. Jakes and Deepak Chopra bring their spiritual insight to the stage in two exclusive talks designed to help you reach your greatest potential. First up, one of the country’s most dynamic spiritual leaders, Bishop T.D. Jakes, takes us on an electrifying journey of self-realization to show us how to maximize our lives by changing the way we think. Then, one of the greatest thought leaders of our time, Deepak Chopra, explains why he believes there is a spiritual solution to every problem in the world. He’ll walk us through the steps of becoming fully aware of our own power and energy, in order to find solutions to obstacles that hold us back.” depakchopra.com

Not a lot of conversion witnessing on the part of Jakes, nothing but more of his self-improvement, self-image, self-help, self-realization, et cetera.

With an estimated net worth of $18 million, Jakes is not afraid to flaunt his immense wealth. He resides in White Rock Lake, a wealthy enclave just outside of Dallas, in a 7 bedroom mansion a shade under 10,000 square feet that includes a bowling alley and an indoor swimming pool. He wears high-end tailored suits. He drives Lexus, Bentley, BMW, Mercedes, flies in a private jet and wears a large diamond stud in his ear (though, to his credit, not while occupying the pulpit). (Matthew 16:24-25 “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.”) Jakes justifies this by saying ; “Anybody who has sold 8 million books shouldn’t have to justify why they live in a nice house.” And told the Dallas Morning News that his ministry is supported in a large part by those who purchase products, books, DVDs, et cetera. “So the stereotypical idea that the evangelist is out there trying to get money from poor widows and welfare people to support his lavish lifestyle – that model does not fit my life.” But the main product he sells is Jesus and the message of prosperity in the material realm that he says is promised to the believer. The poor, the widowed and the unemployed are those who support his ministry by literally buying into his message of prosperity.

2 Peter 2:3 “…through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you…”

Job 9:20 “If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.”

Presidents Bush, Clinton, Obama; the Mayor of Dallas; Deepak Chopra; Oprah Winfrey; Joyce Meyer; Creflo Dollar; Time magazine; Bishop Eddie Long; Bill Hybels; Al Gore and many others heap praise upon this man. Perhaps we are reminded that 2 Corinthians 6:14 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?…”

Jakes certainly loves himself. His own words show this. “Nothing is more essential to spiritual and emotional well-being than that which we are considering now.”…“It is a healthy mind that can celebrate itself.” Chapter entitled “Falling in Love with Yourself” from the Jakes book, The Lady, Her Lover, and Her Lord

Romans 12:3 “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly,….”

Jakes suffers from a level of self-esteem that would make Malcolm Muggeridge blush, as evidenced by the following quote: “…I’m preaching so good I’m about to ‘Amen’ myself! Oh!…Oh God! I’m preaching good! Hallelujah!”, “Give it up, Have it All II,” TBN, April 15, 2005

A modalist of the highest order, Jakes is espouses a heresy that rejects the Trinity but couches it in wordplay that most good Christians would overlook. He is quoted as saying; “God–There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”

The following question and answer is taken from an interview on “Living by the Word” with John Coleman on KKLA in August 23, 1998 and can be found on forgottenword.org:

Questioner: My first question would be, the Trinity would be defined as one God Who’s revealed Himself in three distinct Persons, each co-equal and co-eternal. How important is it for the believing Christian to hold to this belief?

T. D. Jakes: I think it’s very, very significant that we first of all study the Trinity apart from salvation, and first of all that we embrace Christ and come to Him and come to know Who He is. Having come to know Who He is, then we begin to deal with the Trinity, which I believe is a very complex issue. The Trinity, the term Trinity, is not a biblical term, to begin with. It’s a theological description for something that is so beyond human comprehension that I’m not sure that we can totally hold God to a numerical system. The Lord said, “Behold, O Israel, the Lord thy God is one, and beside Him there is no other.” When God got ready to make a man that looked like Him, He didn’t make three. He made one man. However, that one man had three parts. He was body, soul and spirit. We have one God, but He is Father in creation, Son in redemption, and Holy Spirit in regeneration. It’s very important that we understand that, but I think that the first thing that every believer needs to do is to approach God by faith, and then having approached Him by faith, then they need to sit up under good teaching so that they can begin to understand who the God is that they have believed upon.”

Jakes’ message is a mish-mash of Modalism, Word-Faith, Prosperity, Little Gods and New Age mysticism.

He is quoted as saying; “My brothers and sisters the power of life and death is in the tongue. You can have whatever you say.”and “You gotta speak to stuff or it won’t change.”; “The Bone Collector Part II,” TBN, August 12, 2004.

So we, like God, can create and have power over life and death? Apparently so:

“Did you know that the Bible says, ‘You shall have whatever you say.’ Now, don’t you say that if you don’t want no increase. If all you want is what you had don’t say that anymore. But, if you want something beyond what you have ever seen, shout increase! The power of life and death is in your tongue. When you open your mouth you release power all over the room! Shout increase!”, “Bible Answer Man Show,” September 14, 2004

“It’s what you say to yourself that gets you healed. If you say that you won’t be healed you won’t be healed.”; “Seize the Moment,” Woman Thou Art Loosed, 2000, Atlanta.

Apparently God doesn’t heal, it’s the power of our words over our circumstances that does it.

Adjusting his spectacles, Jakes says the following on TBN with a straight face: “You’re entitled to have wellness in your body. Stop begging for what you’re entitled to.”; “God Never Meant For You To Lose,” TBN, July 29, 2004

In the grand tradition of that master of hucksterism, ‘Dr.’ Mike Murdock, Jakes is an energetic cheerleader for the Seed Faith movement:

“I want the privilege of praying over your seed. I want to pray over your seed and it would be ridiculous for me to pray that God to give it back to you. Because if all He was going to do was give it back to you, you ought to keep it and then you would just have it. That’s ridiculous! You got a $100 or a $1,000 and you’re gonna give a $1,000 and I tell you God is going to give $1,000 back. Well, you just broke even! You could have kept that $1,000 and not gone through the trouble! Come on church folk! But God is going to give you some more on top of that. And as you sow it [a person shouts, ‘Increase!’] I dare you to say it again, [The audience shouts, ‘Increase!’]. Oh My God! Woo, we’re about to get ours in here. I don’t know what you’re getting out there. Well, we’re about, somebody shout, ‘Increase!'”, “Bible Answer Man Show,” July 30, 2004

Jakes has proven his intolerance for those who would expose the truth regarding pastors who fleece their congregants by having Davidlee Richardson, former elder of Potters House, escorted out of the church by security during a service in retaliation for the publication of his book, “The Sunday Morning Stick Up. What your pastor doesn’t want you to know about tithes.” (Released in March 2013) A tell-all in which Elder Richardson details the uses to which donations, tithes and other funds are put by those who pastor the church.

Please join me in praying that T.D. Jakes renounce his worldly position and take up the Cross of the Great Commission. He is a spellbinding speaker and could be an effective arrow in the quiver of the Church. Pray also for the millions following him and potentially losing their souls for want of the true Bread of Life.

Our closing verses:

2 Timothy 4:1-5 – “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”

Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
