Arnold Murray affixes the ‘Dr.’ designation to himself, yet has not provided any evidence of scholastic achievement to that degree, nor any educational records to date. He claims to have received his doctorate from Biola University in California. Biola University refutes this.
A strident denier of the Trinity, ‘Dr.’ Murray also teaches that hell does not exist.
The Trinity is God co-existing as three eternal beings coexisting as Father, Son, Spirit. Murray teaches that this is incorrect and that God exists as one being fulfilling three separate roles simultaneously. This is a heresy known as ‘Modalism’; one God, three Modes.
This heresy is easily refuted.
Genesis 1:26; ‘And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.’
Jesus prayed to His Father to send the Holy Spirit, therefore Jesus is neither the Father nor the Holy Spirit, but a distinct personage:
John 14:16-17; ‘And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.’
God the Father spoke of His Son in the second person singular after the Baptism:
Matthew 3:16 ‘And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’
Also, by reinterpreting Genesis to suit his twisted theology, Murray preaches that Eve’s fall was the result of entering into sexual congress with Lucifer and Cain was the product. Conveniently forgetting that Eve did not conceive until after the exile from the Garden; that the birth of Cain was blessed by God; and that the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil bore physical fruit, that was said by God to be forbidden to eat. This was not allegory.
Murray refuses to name any church he attended prior to founding Shepherd’s Chapel, so determining the foundations of his theological education is impossible.
The fact that his program is carried on upwards of 300 stations is reason enough to be skeptical of his message. Satan is the Lord of the air and the airwaves are his domain.
Mr. Murray also teaches that men were once gods who existed prior to living on the earth, something he has in common with Kenneth Copeland, Paul Crouch and Benny Hinn.
Murray has established his bona fides as a False Prophet as well, specifically with four specific predictions that he said would manifest by 1981:
the establishment of a One World System (failed);
the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem (failed);
the appearance of the Anti-Christ (failed);
the first 3.5 years of tribulation (failed).
Murray also predicted that Armageddon would start in 1985 (failed).
Dennis Murray looks to inherit the mantle from his father. Examination of the stern and angry delivery of the word-for-word replay of his father’s misguided messages indicates that the heresy continues for yet another generation.
