Lindsey prophesied in his book “The Late, Great Planet Earth” that the Rapture was coming in 1988. (failed).
Predicted that Jesus would return within 40 years of 1948; (failed)
Russia will invade Jerusalem in the 1980’s. (failed)
Christians will be raptured by the year 2000. (failed)
Lindsey’s false teachings include the pre-tribulation rapture for which there is no clear Biblical teaching:
Matthew 24:29; ‘Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken’;
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.’
1 Thessalonians 4:15; ‘For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.’
Hal Lindsey’s multiple, unbliblical divorces representing four marriages in total, alone disqualify him from the role of preacher as he has not demonstrated the ability to keep his own house in order, much less instruct others on how to do so.
Displaying an incredible lack of denominational understanding or ecumenical discrimination, Lindsey was a member in the 1980′s of the Coalition for Religious Freedom (no longer in existence), an organization very closely associated with the Unification Church, the Moonie cult.
Lindsey does expound the truth of Christ, in that He is God born of man, lived and crucified, rose on the third day and ascended to heaven, the Saviour of mankind. That alone is enough to keep him from being an heretic entire, but his teachings on the pre-trib rapture, his post-conversion failed personal life, and his numerous false prophesies are enough to keep him from being looked to as a true man of the Book.
In addition, his close association with TBN, his false teachings, and his prophecies lead to our conclusion that he is to be counted among the set of false teachers and prophets of these latter days. Belief in God and faith in Christ alone are not enough to ensure salvation.
James 2:18 ‘Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?’
