Michael Pfleger

Michael Pfleger

     Michael Pfleger

Matthew 23:9  And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Michael Pfleger, fading establishment gadfly of the anti-establishment movement, is a Roman Catholic priest in Chicago, Illinois.

Born in 1949, Pfleger has been head of the diocese of Saint Sabina since 1981, a glaring exception to the standard tenure of priests which is anywhere from six to 12 years in any one parish.

Pfleger had adopted two boys, Lamar and Beronti. Beronti Simms died under mysterious circumstances at the age of 32 in Orlando Florida after ‘battling an (unnamed) illness’. Pfleger was foster father to a third, Jarvis Franklin, who was killed by ‘stray’ gang gunfire in 1998.

Pfleger has insinuated himself into the socio-political machinations of Chicago through cooperative alliances with such characters as Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, Cornel West, Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakhan.

In direct opposition to the established tenets of the organizational model of the Body of Christ, Pfleger is in favor of female ordination, as quoted below:

“They (the Apostles) had turned their backs on Him. They had left the One they had been with for three years, 24/7, and they ran away from Him when He most needed them. Only John, at the foot of the Cross and the women. That’s why there should be women priests. That’s why there should be married priests. That’s why there should be women bishops and women cardinals.” April 11, 2010

The only thing that is Biblical about the above statement is the call for married priests. The Word speaks on this:

1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

So we see that, following the Word as Sola Scriptura, ‘Father’ Pfleger is, as are all in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, in direct violation of the directives set forth by the Almighty Father.

Michael Pfleger is against crime, illegal ownership of guns, exploitation of women and children, drunkeness, et cetera and makes great hay of it, as though this sets him apart from any other sensible person. As a matter of fact, he has never met a social ill that he doesn’t deem worthy of attaching his name to the eradication of. However, he seems to forget that the primary purpose of his calling is to lead people to the Cross. I hear very little from him in the way of sermonizing to the fallen on the promise of Salvation.

One would be hard pressed to find an example of ANY Apostle endorsing a candidate for office, or insinuating himself into the socio-political machinations of daily life. They spent their time minstering to the poor and healing the sick, preaching to the heathen and encouraging the converted, lifting up the Spirit and expelling demons, helping the poor and praying for their fellows.

It is this writer’s opinion that Michael Pfleger missed his calling as a political consultant and should leave the reformation of society to the God he allegedly serves and take up the Cross and follow the example of his betters in the New Testament.

If, to know a man, one must look only as far as the company he keeps, how does Pfleger explain his association with Louis Farrakhan? Minister Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, is well-known for his ascerbic statements regarding race and national origin. For example, calling Judaism a ‘gutter religion’. Why would Pfleger invite this person to speak to his congregation from the pulpit of his church? How does this strengthen the resolve of Christians in these last days? How does this help them focus on the paths of Righteousness and Salvation?

“I’ve known the minister (Farrakhan) both as someone who I have great respect for as a prophetic voice, as a mentor but also as a friend and as a brother. We’ve become very close friends over the years. Our families have been close; he’s shared dinner at my house as I have at his many, many times. He has preached from our pulpit here at this church on three different occasions. We’ve worked together on issues not only for this community but in the city and in the nation.”

1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

In 2007, Pfleger, in a throwback to the notorious Chicago of yesteryear, twice threatened to have John Riggio, the owner of Chuck’s Gun Shop in Riverdale, Illinois ‘snuffed out’:

“We’re gonna find you and snuff you out,”

“We’re gonna snuff out legislators who are voting [garbled] against our gun laws and we’re coming for you because we are not going to sit idly.”

Threatening murder or violence, or even the appearance of doing so is surely not the way of the Cross and is not the way to be a living example of our Saviour’s long-suffering patience.

1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 14 Let all your things be done with charity.

In other words; Be watchful. Stand firm in the faith. Act like men. Be Strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

How can you judge a mans heart? No one can know a heart but our Lord Jesus Christ. I’m not judging you but I do not think our God would want you spreading what you believe about a man all over the Internet. May God bless and forgive you.

    • Sister Sharon,

Thank you for reading the profile on Michael Pfleger.

You did read it, didn’t you? Because I’m straining to find one instance of my having judged the man’s heart.

I appreciate and welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement, but having examined your comment in that light, I find neither.

I used direct quotes, given in context. I quoted scripture in exegetical and hermaneutic comparison to the facts given.
But, if you are going to bring up the heart, ‘No one can know a heart but our Lord Jesus Christ’, let me encourage you to study the entire verse from which you draw your correct, if incomplete, quote. You will find it in Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. 11 As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.”

Thank you for the time you took in reading and replying to this profile.

I encourage you to examine what you read in the future in it’s entirety and in context. Try not resorting to what can appear to be knee-jerk reactions and jingoistic accusations when confronted with a viewpoint with which you may not agree.

May God Bless and keep you.
      In Jesus Name,
      James S. Berge
