Marilyn Hickey was born on the 1 of July in 1931. She is the widow of Reverend Wallace Hickey (Wallace passed away in 2012, age 87). Hickey is the mother of two children, Sarah and Michael (adopted).
Husband Wallace founded the Orchard Road Christian Center in Denver, Colorado, the pastorate of which rests in the hands of daughter Sarah and son-in-law Reece Bowling.
Hickey is the founder of Marilyn Hickey Ministries International and is the co-host, with daughter Sarah, of the Marilyn & Sarah TV show which airs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and DayStar Television.
Marilyn Hickey is a false teacher by virtue of the following verses:
1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.;
1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
Women employed as construction workers alongside men and women preaching exegetically the Word of God from the pulpits are two completely different things. It it not within the scope of this discernment ministry to debate the equal pay provisions of the labor laws, however, we are entrusted with the responsibility of exposing the works of darkness and those who profit from them.
Having established the foregoing conclusion, let us examine in detail the efforts of this worker of iniquity to line her pockets with the tithes of good, if mislead, Christians.
Hickey is an enthusiastic promoter of word-faith charismatic pentacostalism and promotes ‘holy’ laughter, seed-faith, blab-it-and-grab-it, speaking in tongues and ‘holy’ fire. She sells herself as having a deeper relationship with God than her congregants, which faith she shares long distance via the sending out of specious and desperate pleas for money, er, tithes, and the use of objects of faith a la Robert Tilton (blessed pennies, prayer cloths, anointing oil, faith-focus photographs, et cetera) the use and return of which (along with a ‘seed’ of faith, read: check, cash or money order) will ensure the sender a personal intercession by Hickey with God and the answering of prayer, whether it be a new car or healing or a raise.
Hickey is known for a book called ‘Break The Genrational Curse‘, in which she claims that all manner of spiritual and physical ailments that falls upon Christians are sourced by curses from generations past. By following her methods, these curses can be lifted and perfect physical health and worldly happiness enjoyed. Hickey expounds a theology that includes determining, through divine revelation, the source of a curse and invoking the power of Jesus and binding of Satan’s power resulting in a removal of the curse, this includes curses that are brought upon people by those who may have lived on their property and did not worship God, thus infecting the area with a curse that then descends upon the new inhabitants.
It is at this point that I point out the incredibly occult nature of this outlook, and the dangerous waters upon which Hickey’s followers tread when looked at in the light of biblical injunctions against spellcraft and invocation.
As an unapologetic proponent of the word-faith and prosperity gospels, Hickey is straightforward in her demonstrations of speak-it wealth making; “What do you need? Start creating it. Start speaking about it. Start speaking it into being. Speak to your billfold. Say, “You big, thick billfold full of money.” Speak to your checkbook. Say, “You, checkbook, you. You’ve never been so prosperous since I owned you. You’re just crammed full of money.” (Audio tape #186, “Claim Your Miracles.” Side 2).
On October 28, 2014, Benny Hinn hosted Hickey on his television program ‘This Is Your Day’. Hinn gushed, “In my opinion this sweet lady is one of the greatest Bible teachers in the world” (youtube.com, “This Is Your Day with Benny Hinn, Guest Marilyn Hickey Prophecy in Daniel Part 1”).
Hickey, in her own words:
“I have a prayer meeting in my house where we pray in the spirit, for one hour.” (youtube.com, “This Is Your Day with Benny Hinn, Guest Marilyn Hickey Prophecy in Daniel Part 1”)
“The Holy Ghost language is praying in tongues” (youtube.com, “58 Marilyn Hickey – Prayer 3 of 8 (Praying in the Spirit, 2 – The Lord’s Prayer)”)
“When we pray in tongues, not only does it open us up to see what we would not have known, but it also opens us up to compare spiritual things with spiritual things” (ibid)
(Praying in tongues )”opens deeper intimacy with God. When you begin to pray in the spirit, your mind doesn’t know. It doesn’t come through your mind. You don’t learn this language here (points to her head), this language is a heart language, it comes through your heart. I remember the first time I heard myself praying in tongues. I thought, well, this is just gibberish. Well, it was gibberish, to my brain. but it wasn’t to my spirit. And the Holy Spirit brought power into my life.” (youtube.com, “Baptism of the Holy Spirit Part 2”)
What does God have to say about the heart?
Genesis 6:5 “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Deuteronomy 8:17 “And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.”
Deuteronomy 11:16 “Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them.”
Deuteronomy 15:9 “Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart,”
Deuteronomy 30:17 “But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them.”
1 Kings 2:44 “Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to.”
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
What about the mind?
Acts 17:11 “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
Acts 20:19 “Serving the Lord with all humility of mind.”
Romans 7:25 “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.”
Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”
Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 14:5 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”
Romans 15:6 “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
What about speaking in tongues? Remember, Hickey says that the mind thinks tongues is gibberish, but the heart understands it?
“What many churches call “speaking in tongues” today is nothing like what the Bible records in the books of Acts and Corinthians. The miracle that occurred on the Day of Pentecost in A.D. 31 (Acts:2:4-8) was one of communication—apparently both in the speaking and the hearing. The Greek word translated “tongues” is glossa and means “languages.” The miracle of speaking in tongues meant that every member of the audience could hear in his or her native tongue (language, see Acts:2:9-11).” (“What does the Bible say about speaking in tongues?” ucg.org)
Acts 2:1 “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.”
Doesn’t sound like gibberish, sounds like languages of men, understood by the hearers, each in his own language.
1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
So what’s the point of praying in ‘tongues’, if tongues (language) is a sign for them that believe not, for to be used in proseletyzing to the unsaved?
And what of this ‘unknowable’ language? Acts 2:6 make sit clear that these were languages spoke by the hearer and unknown only to the speaker, “every man heard them speak in his own language.”
Hickey seems to be espousing a gospel of self-edification, but the Scriptures are clear on this. The gifts of the Spirit are for the edification of the Church, not the self. 1 Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” (withal = the common good, everyone, the church, the body of Christ)
Let us pray that this woman repents of her sin and begins healing the wounds of ignorance she has caused through the spread of her false gospel.
