The 2016 Presidential Election
A sufficient amount of time has elapsed since the election of November 8 to allow us to look at the presidential election as it pertains to the status of Christians in the United States.
We must state at the outset that the Editors of Tarry Not Ministries made no recommendation as to whether Hillary Clinton would have been preferable to Donald Trump. However, in light of Biblical exhortations as to the qualities of Godly leadership, we can say that the Word of God is clear in the area of women leaders: they are NOT to hold authority over men. The women in positions of leadership in the Bible were disastrous, (Isaiah 3:12 “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”) and those who some point to as examples of leadership were NOT leaders in authority, they were business people (Lydia), prophets (Anna, Hulda, Deborah and Miriam), and helpmates to the Apostles (Priscilla, Junias, Phoebe).
Our national leadership is allowed their office through the Will of God but all leaders are to be prayed for. (1 Timothy 2:1-3, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be make for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.”; 1 Peter 2:13-17, “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake (ensure that the ordinance must not violate Scripture): Whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by Him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of them that do well. For this is the will of God, that with well-doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the King.”
So, looking at the foregoing, we can surmise the intent of God’s Will in the choosing of our leaders:
- A nation will receive blessings that are relative to its acceptance of God and to its demonstrated spirituality;
- All public servants are under the authority of God and the offices they hold are to be respected, however persons of ill repute are NOT to be considered for positions of leadership by the electorate;
- Citizens are instructed by God to pray for public leaders, even those who are not born-again Christians.
Whether or not Donald Trump claims to be a Born-Again Christian, we must look to his actions, not his words. There are several areas in which his actions will demonstrate his faith, most importantly is will Trump work to protect Christians from persecution?
If the foregoing does not happen, then he will have failed the hopes of the millions of Christians who voted for him.
The world as we know it is changing and the time of the end is soon upon us. As the wheels of Tribulation begin to turn, there will be precious little that any national leader can do to stem the tide of Satan’s wrath and God’s judgement (Matthew 24:21-22 “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”). Christians WILL be persecuted, not just in the Middle East but worldwide. Nations WILL turn against each other and God, (Matthew 24:7 “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…”).
As Christians in the USA, we pray for deliverance but remember that God will not be mocked, nor will he be delayed in fulfillment of HIS prophecies, as told to us through his prophets and the very words of His Son.
May God have mercy on us and give us all time to repent.
